Hospital appointments with consultant

I am wondering if I am the only one who hasn’t seen their consultant these past 10 months. I had my field tests done in February and haven’t seen consultant for results, it’s been over a year since I had my annual check up. I have not been contacted about clinics being closed. Obviously I am getting concerned that my eyes haven’t deteriorated.

Hi. I phoned the eye department a couple of weeks ago to ask for an appointment as I had laser treatment in April and the consultant wanted to see me again in August and I also had not heard anything. They actually gave me an appointment for next Wednesday and I am hoping it won’t be cancelled because of the lockdown. Why don’t you phone them and see if they will arrange an appointment for you.

Thanks for information, I had laser treatment a couple of years ago. I will be phoning them tomorrow and see if anyone answers.

I definitely think you have to chase. My cousin was saying the same thing to me yesterday, he hasn’t heard anything for ages. My mum had glaucoma & I remember her having to chase up appointments at times and that was before Covid was even a blip on the horizon! Good luck 😉

Yes clinic patients seem to be left behind even if the consultant scares you by saying you must use drops and attend appointments every 12 months. Glaucoma is in my family, my sister being much worse than me has had her regular appointments but lives in a different area. My brother passed away earlier this year, he became blind but had other issues towards the end of his life. Going to sort ASAP.

I’m sorry to hear that your brother passed away. My mum died 21 months ago & she was blind by the end. Her glaucoma was diagnosed late though. Yes it’s in our family too - aren’t we lucky? 😂. I have a cousin in his 60’s who has been told he will be blind by the time he’s 70 which is very sad. Chase your appointment and don’t let them fob you off. Keep us posted. Take care & stay safe 😊

I have pseudoexfoliation glaucoma and was told September last year that I would be seen again in 2 months as it might be advisable to reduce my IOP further. The letter to my GP actually said 6 months. I had an appointment for all the tests this October but did not see the Consultant. A letter from him was received by my GP to say I was to continue my current treatment and would be seen for a face to face appointment in 4 months.

We shall see! No pun intended. 😁

Hi. I’ve not had any communication with regards to an appointment. Not even for them to say we’ve had to cancel it and you’ll hear back soon. Should’ve been beginning of June.

I’m not on my own then regards to non communication with Glaucoma clinics. Amazing how many people have Glaucoma in the UK

Hi Droodle, early on in the COVID days my hospital contacted me, said they’d assessed my condition status and felt it would be ok to postpone my routine assessment if I was comfortable. I agreed to this, got a new appointment date for about 4 weeks ago and that happened according to plan. That said, in pre COVID years I did fall out of the system once and if I hadn’t flagged up the lack of a routine appointment I suspect I could still be waiting. Morale of the story - if you don’t hear from them don’t hesitate to chase them up and ask. Best wishes and good luck.

Thanks for this information, but if no one answers the phone I’m a bit stuck for the time being? A bit worrying for us feeling ok but they know what they are looking for, therefore it’s their expertise of Glaucoma not my own opinion which is needed, plus their modern technology/equipment. Cheers 🤔

I wonder if your GP would be able to help chase up an appointment?
