I was put on drops for high pressure this year and they have come down from 32 to 24 in one eye and 28 to 18 in the other . But they have now change to a combination drop with a beta blocker in it . Anyone had similar experience and did it get you pressures down?

Hi I was put on azarga its a beta blocker and monoprost in january my pressure went down from 28 to 18. It would seem the beta blocker drops are very effective. However my body did not get along with the beta blocker I experienced high anxiety and could not eat. I was given alphagan this is not a beta blocker and monoprost. this was not as effective and my eye pressure went back up to 24 . As I did not want to go back onto a beta blocker my specialist gave me SLT laser treatment. I have results next week. fingers crossed. valeriefrance
Thanks for the reply. I had laser for closed angle and it was a good result and this is something different . I hope your results are good , maybe share the news . Wishing you well x
Hi Sufitzy , I was put on Ganfort initially which is a combination eye drop with beta blocker and my pressures fell from 27 to 18/19. This was not low enough for my consultants liking so I was given an additional combination eye drop, Simbrinza, also containing a beta blocker and my pressures dropped to 15. I never experienced any side effects at all from either drop. My pressures did however go up to 20 and I had a trabeculectomy 9 weeks ago and now take no drops in operated eye. We are all respond differently to each eye drop so hopefully they will work for you.
I have moderate vision loss in right eye hence the need for operation as consultant wants my pressures at 14 to prevent any further loss and drops alone weren't keeping pressures low enough.
If you don’t mind me asking , what’s the surgical option? I have had laser for closed angle glaucoma already and haven’t heard of any other surgical option?
I had a trabeculectomy which is normally used when nothing else is working in controlling your eye pressure. SLT wasn't suitable for me so trab it was. The surgeon makes a hole in wall of your eye and creates a flap and this forms a bleb to allow the fluid to drain from your eye and reduce your pressure. This is a more permanent solution than SLT. I also had the beginning of cataracts removed 18 months ago to open up the angle of eyes which it did but unfortunately didn't lower my pressures.
As you have closed angle. The consultant may recommend lens replacement for you if the change of drops do not bring your pressure down to a level they are happy with. Trabeculectomies tend to be the last port of call if drops and other procedures haven't worked as well as expected.
