As I also take Omeprazole I was advised to take the Itraconazole with coca cola or fruit juice. I have been taking it with fruit juice, but I have just read that fruit juice is not recommended. I do not want to take it with cola as I have osteoporosis and coca cola is bad for the bones. What can I take it with? (I also do not want to be taking too much sugar). Thank you for any advice.

Hello, I have bronchiectasis and ABPA. I have been on Itraconazole for over a year.
I have both your I have both your lung conditions and more. I was on itra for several years until it stopped working I always took it with cola and I had osteoporosis after years of taking Fosamax my bones are nearly normal for a woman of my age now.
Thanks for your reply. I am glad your bones are nearly back to normal!
Grapefruit juice is known to interfere with the effective dose of itraconazole that is present in your blood - it can increase the dose markedly which can increase side effects. It is therefore not recommended. Other fruit juices tend to be fine as fruit juices are quite acidic and it is the acid that is helping absorbtion. Carbonated drinks are good too as they are acidic (fizzy).
Whatever you choose, once your doctors are happy with the dose try to stay with that drink as to change might alter the amount of drug you absorb and that can cause problems.
