Steroids have to be taken to enable you to breathe easily and to prevent scarring of your delicate lung tissue. If you were not to take prednisone it could do more damage than good. Your doctors are in a process of balancing risk - some steroid must be taken but not so much that the infection is encouraged. Voriconazole compensates for any slight drop in immune status while you are being treated.
