Do I need to see a endocrinologist OR a Rheumatologist?

Hi

I have been referred by my GP on NHS to see a Rheumatologist but the waiting list is extremely long. So I am looking to go private.

I am worried a Rheumatologist isn’t going to be able to help though, I know my GP referred me but to be honest they never have really listened to my symptom. I’m wondering after doing lots of research if it would be better to pay to see a endocrinologist. It I explain the symptoms to see if anyone could tell me the best path….

So I get a sore throat and unwell feeling, it feels exactly like I’m getting the flu, then it can completely go for a few days. It’s intermittent. Has been around for ages now. I don’t suffer with fatigue so really don’t think it’s CFS, I have been tested for Lupus which came back negative. And I really don’t think it could be RA.

I’m just thinking it’s more something to do won’t my thyroid and hormones.

Thanks for any advice

I know it's probably difficult, but the best thing would be to see a rheumatologist, an endocrinologist and an infectious disease specialist. Also, it just occurs to me, is there any way this could be allergies. They can cause the feeling of a sore throat, especially if there is any post nasal drip. Maybe you should also consider an ear nose and throat specialist as well.

Thank you for responding. Unfortunately I can’t afford to currently go private with 3 different consultants. I guess I will have to choice one and hope they can help

Do you have joint issues ? Do you have thyroid issues ?

Hi thanks for replying, No joint issues at all. No thyroid issues that I’ve been diagnosed with. My TSH levels are 2.5, my FT4 is 15.2, FT3 is 4.8. But I haven’t had my thyroid antibodies tested yet

I would explore thyroid issues because you would be surprised what health issues pop up even when your thyroid labs appear to be in range however you really need lab ranges after your results to better determine that .

Without joint issues I don’t see what a Rheumatologist will do for you it does sound like your doctor is lost in helping you and picked Rheumatologist

When gps or any type of doctor are lost they always suggest a rheumatologist. This has happened to me several times. In each case the rheumatologists were useless, as I knew they would be.
