Had to have a tablet review I was taking tramadol and PREGABALIN 3 times a day I have just been given duloxetin 30mg once a day anybody else on this and does it work. What I was on was working but jumped up little Hitler (GP) seems to know better than my other gp's after 8 years I've finally found a combination that seems to keep the pain and spasms at bay and now this new doctor in my local surgery just tosses it away tells me he's not going to do it and put me on these. If anyone is on duloxetin please get in touch and let me know how it's going.

Hi Terry

Sorry you are having medication issues with the new GP. I have taken Lyrica previously (not for FND but after surgery) and I chose to not take it as an option because coming off it was horrendous. I was trialled on Cymbalta and the drug did nothing for me at all despite the specialist bumping up the dose insisting it would work. Eventually once they saw it wasn't working then I had the horrible experience of coming off Cymbalta.

I will add that my pain meds were adjusted by specialists, not a GP. Can you be referred to someone who knows more than a GP? We are the experts in our bodies. We know what works, doctors can only tell us what should work the best. I have also found pain specialists to be less reactive as there seems to be less concern that people are 'drug seeking'.

Also interesting the GP wants to shift you to an entirely different class of medication? What is the justification? Having a GP you feel confident with is so important. Can you go to someone else?

The drug I have found works best for me has been Tapentadol but it depends what symptoms FND causes that the medication is trying to target.

I tried Cymbalta and it did help some with anxiety as well as nerve and muscle pain, but it also atcted as a trigger for what I can only describe as MS hug. Now I’m taking protriptyline instead which has helped mostly Gi pain/issues but also a little for nerve/muscle pain. I’m taking LDan as well which also helps with nerve issues.

I started taking duloxetine for depression, and it was supposed to be in combination with one of my other medications to improve its effectiveness. I don’t think the duloxetine really has done anything for me. I was taking 30mg twice a day, but it keeps me awake so now I’m taking it in the morning. The gabapentin does help with nerve pain for me.

Thanks for your message I've made my GP put me back on tramadol and PREGABALIN as the duloxetine kept making me need to pee every hour and made me feel really sick, I don't know why my stupid GP wanted to change my medication as it's the first combination in 8 years that is working for the pain and the nerve spasms. I would say out of all the medications I have taken in the past, the main 3 that seem to work are TRAMADOL and Gabapentin for pain and PREGABALIN for my nervous system.

Nice to hear from you keep well.

what does the PREGABALIN do? Is your pain pretty much under control? I’m still dealing with pain every day. I have a gait disorder, and when I try to stand or walk, the pain gets significantly worse. Just sitting is also bad. I haven’t found anything to completely take the pain away. I do take opioids when the pain is severe, but I try not to take it unless I have to. However, I’m always in pain.

Are you able to live your life fully? I used to always take vacations and do adventurous things. I haven’t done anything since my accident. I miss that.

My pain is under control but I'm not completely pain free the PREGABALIN and TRAMADOL control pain and spasms as much as possible but doesn't stop them completely. I don't believe I will ever be back to my normal self I have never been able to play squash or badminton again as I can't jump at all. I have days where I'm ok but have days where when I walk 15 or 20 minutes I'm absolutely knackered I can't kick a ball around with my kids or be active in that fashion at all. I've now been suffering from FND for 8 years I have heard of people getting better and doing more than what I do but they do seem to get physio quite early on in there diagnosis.

I get angry when I think about not being able to do the things I used to be able to do. So if you do need to chat I'm always here and I will always reply when I'm able to.

Just an add on sorry but I do find that the PREGABALIN controls my spasms I take 1tablet three times a day as my spasms are quite intense and make me feel like I double over and lose all control of my body. Kids say it looks like I've been possessed.
