I was diagnosed over 20 years ago with FND. However, it is only in the past couple of months that I discovered it is classed as a disability. It's been suggested to me that I apply for PIP due to the effect it has on my life on a daily basis. Is there any point in applying for it considering I've had it for do long?

Absolutely and remember it’s not the name of the condition it’s how it affects your activities of daily living, you have to fill it in remembering how you are on those worst days, also remember many fail on the first attempt if your not absolutely thorough with the form. But always appeal as so many as overturned on appeal. Good luck
Good luck
I'd get someone to help you to complete the form (eg someone at Citizens Advice) and you'll need evidence from your dr/consultant to go with it since they don't always collect this evidence for us. It's not much fun having to focus on our worst days but that is what they need to 'see'. If you have to have a face to face assessment please ask someone who knows you well to be there to ensure that you don't have to do any physical tests in unsafe environments and to help you if they ask questions and you can't remember the details. If you have any cognitive impairments, please ask whichever agency is handling your claim to provide one of their 'cognitive champions' to assist you.
Absolutely there is a point but be prepared for a fight! Keeping a diary of symptoms and their effects on how you function can be useful. Many cases are refused in the first instance and then you have to go for appeal. It is worth remembering that PIP isn’t so much about your diagnoses as the effects on your functionality. Also remember that the ‘I can prepare food’ type questions should be read as ‘reliably, repeatedly, without pain’ etc. this definition was fought for but does not appear on the form. Good luck. I also recommend getting help from a benefits advice group.
