Dry and sore eyes

Hi there,

I am wondering if anyone can shine a light on my eye symptoms….

When I wake up in the morning I have trouble seeing at first-my eyes are so dry it’s hard to open them, everything is a bit fuzzy, and they are sore. After being awake for ten minutes or so they start to work better and eventually I can get up. They remain a little sore, dry, and red during the day.

Do you think this is FND? Any insights on how to treat this?

Thanks!😀

I have the same symptoms. Often when I wake in the night to go to the loo, I physically cannot open my eyes. They also feel sore and itchy. As the day progresses they are fine but then get tired and itchy in the evening.

Quite common and... Nothing to do with fnd . See a good optician, they will examine your eyes and most likely prescrine lubricants, viscotears, for the night, possibly also drops several times a day for a period of time, it's sth called cornea erosion. Have it myself. Can run in families. Sort of dry eye syndrome but more painful.

Hi BlueSkies1.

I like your name. It’s so positive!

So sorry to hear about your eyes. I can relate to the extremely dry and sore eyes.

I have a neurologic condition called Essential Benign Blepharospasm which can be an FND component or an independent issue. Basically, it’s very difficult to keep the eyes open. Along with severely dry eyes, I have quite a bit of pain and a feeling of my right eyeball being sucked into my head. It took a neuro-opthomologist to diagnose it.

If possible, I would recommend going to an opthomologist. They are actual medical doctors and should be able to address your eyes. There are over-the-counter and prescription drops available that may help. I use Restasis, a prescription medicine, along with Pataday and Blink gel drops (both OTC). Together, my eyes are manageable.

I hope you find relief.

Hi, I know the feeling! I wake up and sometimes & feel my lids are stuck, I also squint and walk around for the first few minutes with eyes squeezed tightly as they just don't seem to be able to cope. (To be clear I have a migrainal condition for 38 years *not related to FND) so light is a problem but this is newer & different. I also get double vision now. I have dry eye condition for years (20) and was given gel as well as drops in the last year or so in an effort to further help.my eyes. I have found, hat the gel really soothes my eyes so much better than even my drops. The optamologist also checks my eye pressure (annually) as I have a pre disposition to glaucoma because of my migrainal condition. It might be worth at least getting your doctor to see if you need drops to lubricate your eyes & then seeing an eye specialist if no improvemt. As I said they check for pressure in eyes, diseases etc & the tests are non invasive. ..I hope you get some relief... It is tough to deal with it all...best wishes.
