Another random question. Has anyone found that it is more difficult to lose weight while dealing with FND? I had lost quite a bit by changing my diet drastically but as my symptoms flared up the weight came back.
I’ve begun strength training a bit so I can actually function and try to regain some abilities again. But my weight will not go down. My husband was even surprised because I follow the textbook type of guidelines to lose weight but it just doesn’t happen.
I was just curious if this is something I’m going to have to just adjust to or if I’m special haha

Hey. I know the meds can add to the issues of weight loss/gain. I have thought about trying to find alternatives to it all but I just.. I don’t know. I guess I don’t want my body to freak out even more so if I change things again. Sounds lame but I already hurt but manage some of it, I don’t wanna bring on anything worse.
Hi yes I’ve been trying everything possible but decided the best I can do is eat sensibly and eat fresh prepared food as much as possible. The weight won’t come off and sneaks up. Using Fitbit to ensure I don’t eat more calories than burned off cause it’s dramatically decreased is helping keep it at a level.
Hey. I use my Apple Watch to track everything and an app on my phone to track every bite of food I take in. My Dr saw it and even he was like “uh that’s really good” and almost was shocked because of course their speech at first is diet and exercise. Well my diet is good, water intake is amazing, and my exercise is as tolerated but much more than I used to.
Yes! I personally believe that FND is the result of undetected inflammation. After getting the FND diagnosis, I also got one for fibro (not sure where the overlay is between the two). I started low dose naltrexone for the fibro and the weight just began falling off! That's the first time that's happened in years!!!! I absolutely believe that since the inflammation level is now reduced, I can lose weight.
Wow! I’m glad it started helping you! That is an excellent point though and I’m gonna bring it up to one of my doctors (not sure which anymore as I feel like they take turns listening and not listening lol).
I actually lost 100 pounds while dealing with this disorder. I didn't know that was what I had. I was being treating for MS at the time, but last June my doctor changed my diagnosis to FND and told me she now thinks this is what I have had for the last 12 years (It's a long story). I lost my weight doing Ideal Protein, which is a ketogenic diet. I've maintained my weight loss for 1 year so far, continuing on a keto diet, but not quite as strict as I did when I was losing. I couldn't exercise much as all. Most of the time, I couldn't even walk. I have recurrent episodes of full body paralysis every 3 months. I was hospitalized 4 times during the weight loss phase. I would gain a little bit each time I was in the hospital because it is impossible to stay keto in the hospital, but I got right back on plan as soon as I got home. I've continued to have my paralysis episodes every 3 months, and I gain a little with each hospital visit, but I lose it within 2-3 weeks of being home. It is possible to lose weight with this diagnosis, even when your mobility is severely impaired.
