Waiting list for Prof Edwards and recent info on Dr Mellors at Lishman unit please.

My friend has lost mobility in both legs, has left arm weakness, is bladder retentiveand has regular blackouts and non-epileptic seizures. She asked for a referral to Prof Edwards but instead one is being sent to Dr Mellors. Having searched the posts the only info I can find on the Lishman unit is related to 2014. Does anyone have an idea what current waiting lists are like for Prof Edwards and whether he provides an inpatient service? Also any recent experience of the Lishman unit would also be welcomed.

Hi I have no experience of the Listman unit but I do know Prof Edwards has a waiting list but I'm not sure how long it is, I've seen on our support groups fndhope.org that members have said its been months for them to see him. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful but best of luck for your friend, hope she gets the support she needs xx

Hi, I waited 7 months last year to see prof Edwards, and well worth the wait. Lovely person, and knowledgeable as was the doctor I also saw from his team. Am now waiting for inpatient physio there, and was told w/l was 12-18 months. But recently been referred to Wolfson Centre at Queen Mary hospital London, to help with w/l. So waiting to hear when I go. Bit complicated for me as I live in Wales and so have to apply for funding so that can take time. If you type Lishman centre in Google, it tells you what they do. Very best wishes to your friend.x

Hi, those waiting lists are long! Fingers crossed you get seen at the Wolfson Centre a lot sooner. Yes I've looked it up and am aware what they do, just thought it would be good to have some understanding of others recent experiences. Good luck xx

The Lishman unit is now based at Bethlem Hospital, London rather than the Maudsley. They are specialists at both in and outpatient therapies. I've been there myself 4years ago for a 12 week treatment program.

Prof Edwards and St.Georges is one of the best around and has access to refer to various treatment programs, including an outpatient one at the Wolfson in Queen Mary's where I currently am finishing off the job the Lishman started. There are waiting list unfortunately but I assume he was referred to the Lishman for specific reasons and can say it is one of the best around.

If you join us on Facebook via fndhope.org there are many more of us have been through these programs and been successful.

Hi, thanks for replying. I'm aware the Lishman unit is at the Bethlem Hospital but find it strange that no one on here seems to have been treated there recently. I'm pleased you've had the opportunity to benefit from both the Lishman and the Wolfson and can recommend them. Was Dr Mellors working there when you were there?

A few members have been treated there. Many on the list transferred to the Wolfson when Dr Symeon & Dr Dilly left the Lishman I believe. Others tend to veer away from there because of its association with "mental health" but it's a good place to go. Dr Mellor was there but I was under Dr.Shotbolt who is gone on to other specialities now.

The referral has now been changed to Dr Shotbolt at the Lishman, but if I'm right you're saying he's no long there! Any idea where he is or what he's doing?
