RE: Wife's housing medical.

Hi everyone!

You may all be aware of how much fighting we are doing to get my Wife Kim who has FND, re - housed into a Bungalow from this miserable 2nd floor flat we're in.

They will not re - house her due to either of us not being 50 years of age which is required for a Bungalow.

After 2 years of fighting, endless letters, medical reports etc, the housing are finally sending a medical officer out within the next few weeks to see Kim.

I've got all my video footage of Kim's symptoms to show them, so it will be up to them to make a decision on whether she will be eligible for a Bungalow but I'm adamant that she won't go into a flat again.

Has anyone ever had experience of a visit by a housing medical officer and what questions they will ask us?

I'm well prepared but would appreciate any tips or advice for us both.

Hi there

You would need to prove comprehensively the difference between a ground floor flat and a bungalow in relation to your wife's symptoms. Having said that I don't know that noise sensitivity will cut it in a city - bungalows will still have plenty of noise, just different.

When I worked in housing (a couple of decades ago) we had a lady with a confirmed case of some mental health disorder - it may have been PTSD - who suffered an exacerbation of symptoms as a result of noise. Once we had accepted that on the basis of her medical reports we were a bit stumped. In the end we had to offer her a very isolated privately rented bungalow on the edge of a little village - as by definition none of the properties on our estates would have addressed the noise issues.

That is likely to be what you are up against.

If they have a clear policy regarding criteria for bungalows you should also note that they could be open to challenge -from any person on the Housing Register - if they don't stick to them. It isn't so much a case of 'red tape' as 'rules are rules'.

It's all about minimizing her symptoms.

We had an interview with sheltered housing and during the interview, somebody above us banged and it set my wife's legs into Spasms, so i know for a fact that a lower ground properly is a no no.

It's a very difficult situation I understand.

How do you avoid noise?

I only hope my recorded footage will help.

Tony, you can do this. When I used to worry about whether I could meet someone's expectations or jump through their hoops, I would get myself refocused and do one thing. I would forcefully tell the truth in simple terms. Then, I would tell the other party what was going to happen to them if they did not do the right thing.

You have knowledge, truth and what is right all on your side. You are defending your beloved. Don't worry about how to do it. Your instincts will kick in and take care of it.

No fear. No worry. Just tell them what they are going to do and when they are going to do it.

Trust me, I've done all that and I would love to take legal action but we can't afford the costs.

We'll wait to see what happens but make no mistake, I'll fight all the way for this.

Glad you are feeling good about it. I have no doubts that you will get this done when time is right. I apologize that my previous post may have implied legal action. Americans are known for going to court to settle out every dispute. My family is not that way. All four of us now literally just tell people we have dealings with what we can do on our part and if they ask for more than that, we just stop the dealings. Sometimes we end up walking away but when that happens we know we are better off for it. Being reasonable and accommodative folks, we bend over backwards to comply and play the game, but it all stops when the other side asks too much - or at least more than we can give.

You guys are way smarter than the people you are having to deal with to get what you want and need. See it through their eyes, figure out how to make them look good in the process, exploit the weaknesses in the system and manipulate the heck out of the situation.

And yes... I used to be a guy in the background of companies who knew how to do all this stuff and could set scenarios and lay traps that created vulnerabilities that we could then use to leverage our position and get what we wanted out of business deals. I made my senior officers look good and earned them tons of money. I was not a nice person back then. Health problems are probably payback for bad behavior.

It is OK to be mean at times if you need to make life better for your family. Sounds wrong until you realize that others are doing the same thing to you. That is why I view medicine with such skepticism. The patient is too often the one getting the short end of the stick.

Diseases classified as "unknown" like FND fund a whole lot of retirement plans because it represents a game. It is certainly not a game to me and my family as I am sure it is not to anyone else in this community. Immensely frustrating..

Hi I didn't have a medical officer but I got an OT referred by my gp. She started off oh so wonderful, told me she knew all about Fnd, unfortunately I was having housing issues the day she visited then also on the2nd visit where she brought a city council manager who was there yo help me get into a more permanent ground floor place as I'm in an apartment but would love a little garden and to see outside.

I was offered all these services by OT including getting a panic button fir all the falls I have but by that last visit I think they. Had colluded as panic button was taken off the menu as it had meant I went to a higher priority and must be given better housing so I continue to fall and am stuck in same not permanent stress inducing housing.

Oh and also I'm allergic to mould it stops me breathing and I'm in a mouldy apartment but they ignore that too as it is also grounds for moving me immediately

Thank you for replying.

Kim's had a Primary Care Assessment done and the medical team have received that.

The Assessment states that Kim needs a Bungalow and all her Neurologist letters and GP letters state the same thing, so I don't think they need any more proof.

We also have our local Councillor on board too, so we're hoping that this will do some good.
