I love this! Highly sensitive people. I fully agree with this idea. Indeed, sensitivity has a negative connotation. I believe that is something that lends to the correlation of hysteria, psychogenic disorders and our favorite - functional disorders with the negative viewpoint (insert scoff here*).

As the speaker states, HSP is Not an illness, it is a genetic trait. Found in the genetic make-up resulting in sensory stimuli sensitivity. I can fully verify that. Just like the speakers stories, and many of us, it can be difficult to deal with overloaded sensory stimuli. I'm not a huge fan, meaning I don't like it and don't handle it well, of incredibly loud environments, bright, flashing lights, too many smells, sounds or other stimuli. I have tried to deal with those situations, but ended up isolating myself for a time. Now I have worked to build a life where I can enjoy life, but also not get into those overwhelming situations on my sensory processors.

She delivers a good message, and one that we all must remember.

This also reaffirms in my mind that the things we all go through are in part, at least, coming from a genetic proclivity within us. Think about this for a minute. If our bodies are predisposed to have a sensitivity to processing sensory stimuli, is it not possible that that predisposition then results in an exhibition of abnormal behaviors, such as movements, seizures, etc? I can name numerous experiences I have had, as I'm sure we all can.

In short, this would be a great research topic. .... **hint hint**. Maybe Emory would like to spearhead that one?

Thanks for sharing this nurmihusa.

Andrea :)

Sadly, we live in a country - a world in fact - that idolizes the sociopath. Empathetic, highly sensitive people are devalued and trashed as a matter of course. Just business as usual.
