Hi guys, just wondering if you know of another med that will help with migranes and nerves that doesn't gain weight!? I'm currently on Amitriptyline (Tricyclic) and ridiculous weight and holding fluid...an example is in 3 days I've gained 2.5 kg. This had been happening since March when i started on it and I've gained about 15kg and probably 20 since symptoms started with FND. I'm not happy. Would love to know if you've tried something else that worked for symptoms i.e to sleep and treat migranes and nerve stuff that doesn't increase weight gain or fluid retention?

My gp doesn't know much about this and would love to have some information to go with to change this current script. I've tried diuretics as well and not having any luck...

Appreciate your advice x thanks

For migraine you could try low dose betablockers - such as Propranolol - as a prophylactic. Weight gain may also be due to hormone imbalance which often goes awry so it is worth asking the doc to check that. S/he ought to be able to do something about your fluid retention though - unless they are particularly clueless...

I too experienced weight gain in 2 weeks of starting despite no changes to diet, exercise, normal routine etc. I swapped to Lamotrogine and no weight gain (I'm on 500mg split into 250mg morning and evening.

Hope this might help. I also have a mental health condition and everything prescribed to me only lasted 2 weeks as the weight gain was horrific and disappeared as soon as I stopped. Avoid Olazapine like the plague!

Cheers

Lou

Hi Angel,

I take gabapentin and tramadol for nerve pain. It also helps my restless legs a bit too. Doesn't help sleep though but codeine does! (Mind you, its mega addictive so need to be careful. I don't take it unless I am really struggling.

Best wishes

Mel xx

Hi angel, I have tried everything I have been given by Drs, mental health, and other professionals, all gave me side effects some so severe I wanted to die to stop the pain. After seeing professor Edwards he said there is no known drug or operation to help me with FND am Noe just waiting for more appointments in London for more assessment as to weather they can help me or not. I wish you great luck if you find a drug that helps you. Thinking of you. Lisa 🤗🤗🤗
