I did it as did my brother and Dad (they were both diagnosed after me). It’s a great service. Our testing all showed no hereditary cancer genes but that’s important to know as well. I recommend anyone who is newly diagnosed to participate.
I did the Promise gene tests. It's amazing that it's free!
It helped me make a go/no go decision on whether to use estradiol therapy to help prevent hot flashes and osteoporosis from ADT. Estradiol therapy is contraindicated if you have the BRCA 1/2 gene mutations, because of breast cancer. In my case I was OK, so I started the estradiol therapy.
There is no downside to doing the tests.
