Prostate cancer

My prostate condition started around eight years ago when I had urinary track infection which also led to prostatitis. Ever since then, my PSA jumped from 2 to 7.8 during the last 5 years. I had two biopsies… first one, four years ago, they detected no positive cancer cells in my prostate. However, second biopsy a year ago, they found one small cancer cells from 13 samples..

Just recently, my PSA test results came in at 10, which is an all time high!

I am very concerned and would like to know what I can expect going forward?

What did they do a year ago after the biopsy detected cancer? You had no other scans?

The Doctor felt we should just monitor and test for PSA in 6 months later. He felt it was very early stage.

I cannot have MRI because I have too much metal from implants to my both hips

Since you cannot have MRI , suggest you look for someplace where you can have a microultrasound exam and biopsy. Several studies have found that this newer tech does almost as well as MRI in imaging prostrate cancer lesions. Also, you might consider transperinial biopsy with more cores taken.

Have you researched or asked for non invasive PCa blood and urine testing before additional scanning or biopsy such as ---- (others are available)

these do not exclude the possibility of significant cancer, and do not replace biopsy.....and of course biopsy is far from perfect. Recently someone here reported that he had at least 2 negative TRUS biopsies, but his Doc still suspected cancer. The patient then had a comprehensive transperineal biopsy that found Gleason 4+5..

Any further tests be they by scans or *via a fluid e.g.-blood, urine, saliva* are meant to add additional background information and can be done non invasively BEFORE another biopsy (transperineally performed) which should most likely follow

I think your high psa is most likely due to inflammation Also if they tested every 75 year old male they would find a similar situation in most men regarding cancer in their prostate gland

Inflammation sometimes leads to cancer but not always

I am not a medical person it's just my opinion

Things I wish I done earlier:

1) exercise and lose weight (this helpful for multiple reasons, but in particular should you have your prostate removed. Less weight sitting on your bladder, helps with any incontinence issues.

2) review your blood work with your general practitioner and work toward getting what you have control over in a healthy range. Focusing what I had control over gave some sense of peace.

3) Pray and acknowledge that God has got this. I tried to do this each day.

Not what you're looking for?
