Bone Marrow Biopsy

Hi. I have been recently diagnosed with a MPN, although I don’t know which one yet. I have to have my first bone marrow biopsy on Friday. Having never had any other medical procedures or surgeries, I’m terrified. I will be under conscious sedation but I don’t really know what that means. Am I going to feel pain? Anything else you think I should know? Thanks in advance for any information.

Do not worry. I was put under conscious sedation as well and I felt nothing, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. The only drawback was I could not remember what my doc said after the procedure, but that's normal. Good luck :)

I agree! Nothing to worry about. I felt no pain at all and my doctor told me that my bones are really hard. I mean it’s not a pleasant thing to do but it’s not worse than going to the dentist.

Hi I had my biopsy just by local anthestic into the area. Fully awake! No problems at all. Could have gone back to work after it.

I’ve had 2 bone marrow biopsies. First one was pain free. Second one wasn’t. Good luck, but don’t sweat it.
