knee surgery discussion with orthopedic surgeon

Hello out there,

I would like to get some feedback from people who have had knee surgery that have RA.

My last surgery (bladder mesh removal) meant I had no RA drugs in me for a month and it was brutal, trying to heal and being in a big flare from the trauma on my body.

Any tips or words of wisdom would be helpful.

i am extremely allergic so had many tests done for metals, cement compound and even plastic which they said I was ok with but I have lingering doubts about the plastic. I have my hubby to help as much as he can so I feel grateful for that. If I have the knee replacement and it ( for some reason) I reject the plastic thé he will have to fuse the knee and it’s my right knee to drive so I am really trying to leave no stone unturned with making the best choice for a quality of life. I've had both my hips replaced (some 30+ years ago) more recently I have had a reverse shoulder and an op on my spine. In all cases except for my lumber discs my MTX was stopped for one dose before the op and salatzoprine ?????? was stopped for a few days before and after. When they operated on my discs nothing was stopped and I has ll sorts of problems with wound infections. And as soon as It was agreed to stop tose two drugs it cleared up.

Between December 19 and March 20 I was in a coma and had a heart valve replaced. They stopped most of my RA drugs for some months including the MTX and that was hell.

Thanks so much for sharing your experiences. It sounds like you are a very strong warrior woman and conquered a lot with your RA and your surgeries. I must admit, I agree with you when you said it was hell, based on my last surgery. I guess it’s necessary to not have any drugs at all to heal. Good luck to you with your health, the part
