I am not sure if there is apoint at which you do it, but I would expect in the beginning rather than suddenly needing time off for an unexpected fibro flare xxxx

Thank you Mdaisy that was interesting.

About 18 months ago i went for a job and after my interview i was told i had the job so i decided honesty was best and informed them of my fibro to which they said it shouldn't be a problem and they would contact HR health and safety and call me back later. well as you can imagine later never came so i waited 24 hrs and phoned them and the answer was that they had changed the hours of the job and the previous applicant had phoned back to say she would take the job and was happy to work less hours. Well i'm no idiot , i have fibro not half a brain grrr i felt completly useless. So i'm nervouse about going back out thier but needs must and i have to get a job.

Not being legally trained, but I do not think you are in need of telling them, or that they have the right to ask, if you are not taking time off sick, and then they do.. They ask on application forms, about time off in last posts usually and often if you consider yourself as disabled. If you have answered all necessary questions honestly and still got the job, then all that is to do is to keep them informed if you are sick. I worked in local govt and after a real bad flare up disabling me for a year, eventually lost my job, but you are covered by the disabilities rights act, so employers can only behave like this after a long period of sickness. Make sure you take advice from CAB if your new employer ever tries to punish you because you are sick, always inform them and provide certificates for abscence etc. and here is hoping you can manage to keep that job!

Best of luck to you and Happy New Year :) NN
