Hi Ward
I had acupuncture 5 times about 4 years ago. I must admit it made me feel worse. However, we all react and respond differently to treatments so it may work for you? I want to sincerely wish you all the best of luck and please take care of yourself my friend.
All my hopes and dreams for you
Ken
Hi ken iv heard enough to put me off.π
Hi Ken I understand your response, when I tried it some years ago the physio/Chinese doctor didn't do what the current physio does which is to ask me what position I sleep. on i.e one favourite side with a pillow between my knees and NOT laid on the my face (as before) hurting like hell because that was not a good position for a fibro sufferer.I wouldnt let anyone administer a treatment that was very uncomfortable as you are right, the tension it causes means the treatment was a waste of time, nowadays I am put in a very comfy position for my lower back, I am sat propped by numerous pillows for my knees and a pillow rest under my arm for elbows.. I do get good results after session 6 onwards as the physio then has made a body marker plan of where to go for good results.
Hi Hidden that would have been better for me as well my friend. I could have really done with some kind of body marker plan as I may have had better results?
I get dry needling as part of a regular massage and find it relieves built up tension in the muscles. In my experience so far these benefits are shortlived however I am lucky in that my massage therapist has also provided me with daily stretches which are lengthening this timescale out π
As with everything, everyone is different so best to give it a go and let your body decide how it's gonna work for you otherwise you will never know!l
Best of luck, hope it provides some relief π
Hi sam thanks for reply . Not sure what to do now havnt heard enough positive things about it as yet. Gunna look more into itx
Hi Ward, have tried acupuncture by 3 separate clinics. All assured me that it would releive my fibro. Sorry to say had no effect at all, dont waste your time and money. I found jacuzi and sauna helps, but I do have to force myself to go as I never seem to have any energy. I do feel better afterwards and better for having a chat with other people. It is my treat. Best wishes xx
Thanks for reply iv made my mind up now.its not happening lol sauna sounds relaxing .gunna go tomorrow if it helps. Will have them on a regular bases πX
Hi Ward, hope it helps, but fibro is so unusual what works for one does not work for another. Enjoy your sauna, as I said it is my way of treating myself and the jacuzi I use is the only one where the jets dont cause problems for my muscles and it is lovely and hot. The one thing I realised was to let my body cool down naturally after the sauna. Hope it goes well for you I know with fibro there are not many things you can really enjoy. Best wishes.
Well lou lou did go for a sauna today took friend with me omg it was lovely got a bit to warm . So came out for air lol then went back in . I will deffo be doing it againπ€
So glad you enjoyed it Ward. When I find anything I can do and enjoy I go for it. Following on from acupuncture
query, acupuncture does work in a lot of different illnesses but I have yet to hear of anyone with fibro that says it works. Happy saunaing, if there is such a word.
Maybe I could be a positive responder! I have had acupuncture on lower back/coccyx area for muscle pain and cocxydenia, I had 10 session in all administered by a qualified physio specialist at Manch Royal. Much depends on who does it, do they know fully what they are doing, there are many !fake! clinics about, I could stick a plaque outside my door saying I administer this and I have a title after my name! Arrange it via your Rheumatologist or physio, it is not a one off treatment and we all differ on how much we need, NO it did not hurst at all, I have had knees done, elbows, neck/spinal area, many years ago when Ankylosing Spondilitis was active I had it down my back either side of my spine from neck to cocxy with good results. Try it don't be put off BUT one session is not enough!!
Thanks for replying . Im a bit confused what to do im hearing good and bad .i am a whimp when it comes to needles. π
Hi i have it done at the RLHIM queen Square works wonders on my feet walk out of there like new! it won't work on all things thats just the way it is but for most things great
Need somewhere that they understand you/whats going on rather than just prick prick prick but there are variations in types of acupuncture you can also get it with electrical impulses which i get in my ankle which works on the bladder nerves they found
yes many times including deep root . it helped at times with sleep, loosening of spasms but if I then I got out car too quick or pulled something it could result in the benefit disapatiing being non effective.
all you can do is give it a go.
it's ok if it's on nhs but privately it's expensive.
I couldn't live without it. My fortnightly sessions keep my hip going. I agree that it depends who does it. I live in Cheshire and have found an excellent therapist who sends tiny electrical signals through the needles. I definitely know a day or two before my next session that it's due.
Please don't be put off, mine also uses very fine needles unlike the Chinese practitioners which I can barely feel. I am one big woos with needles so if I can do it anyone can.
I agree that you really can't tell after one session which a good therapist would explain to you.
Thanks for reply nice to hear needles are small lol and you dont really feel it .that helps. X
Ward, acupuncture has been around for centuries. You must find a clinician who is certified. And well practiced. The placement of some needles will give off a tingle some won't. Other than that there is no pain. I would not be walking had it not been for Acupuncture. It does take a while for healing to be noticed because we look for big changes. You will notice things like better sleep, happier disposition, and less pain. At the time, I was so grateful bc my pain meds started working better. I didn't realize it was me who was feeling better. Acupuncture is an amazing journey. I was sorry not to continue bc my funds ran out. Acupuncture, like Massage are expensive long term and both work. I don't recall ever experiencing a toxic reaction with acupuncture. Only good came out of my year long exposure. I can still walk and be more flexible after years of Physiotherapy, pain is not something we can get rid of quickly and forever. One day we will figure it out. Best of luck.
Thanks chickpea your reply has made a difference i dont sleep much at night . So it could actually help with my sleeping . Sounds good if it helped me to sleep better im up and down all through the night . Then shattered in the day.with awfull pain all over my body take care laurax
Hi ward, yes that's right. I go fortnightly when pain is bad but only every six weeks when ok. Got on top of a lot of my pain with Med's but still find it very comforting in my stubborn hip.
A good therapist should give you a free initial consultation to help you decide.
