Hi smiler66

Rheumatologists tend to be the Consultants who diagnose Fibro as this is one of the areas they specialise in.

However, your GP is also able to diagnose Fibro.

It would be an idea to start keeping a Pain Diary for the next few days just keeping a note of where your pain is and how bad it is.

Take this with you to your appointment. Some Rheumatologists find this sort of information very useful.

Your best bet is just to let the Consultant lead your appointment. S/he will ask you various questions about your pain and sleep.

They may also suggest that you have some blood tests and x rays.

It is also possible that they may prescribe some medication for you as well.

It is hard to say whether you will find the appointment useful. I guess it depends somewhat upon whether you have already been diagnosed with Fibro or not.

I hope that helps?

Ah ok. Have you tried Amitryptyline? That is usually the first med that the Consultants try as it helps with low mood, sleep and pain.

I hope u have better luck than me.i saw a rheumatologist in july and when i said i d been referred for suspected fibro he laughed it off.he referred me for physio which im still waiting for an appointment for.in the meantime ive gone private cos the pain was driving me mad.had a letter after my appointment to say i was on the fibro spectrum whatever that means!!!!!!my docs is good and is treating it as fibro.i hope your appointment goes well and you get some support.xx

My Rheumatologist was great and i learnt a lot from him, he recomended Amitriptiline to my GP . unfortunately they cant really do much more than your gp. It does help when dealing with other specialists and the DWP if you have a diagnosis from a Rheumy. Or at least i think it does.

I was asked at my last medical if i had been diagnosed by a specialist or my GP. So it makes you wonder.
