If I take 2 cocodomals in the morning I go on a high, after a couple of days not taking them I hit a real low. Why is this?

Hi the_crazies

I am so sorry to read that this is happening to you, and I genuinely hope that you can find some resolution and relief to this issue. I would think that you are having a side effect reaction to your Co-Codamol, and really you should inform your GP of this so they can give you an alternative pain medication.

I have pasted the NHS Choices webpage link below to Co-Codamol side effects.

I want to wish you all the best of luck with this

My GP told me awhile ago that if you take pain killers only when you have pain, the risk of addiction is low. I have followed this rule ever since. I take paracetamols during the day when I have pain. I would only take 1 cocodamol and one paracetamol if I have neuropathic

pain during the day. I will always opt for paracetamol and if that doesn't work, like if I wake up in the middle of the night with pain, I take one codeine. I'm not sure why you have a high with cocodamol but, if you don't have any pains, don't take cocodamol and discuss this with your GP.

This side effect is common and why they are addictive. Hope you find something better.

I agree with THe Author you should really go to your GP, as Co-Co domol is combine from Codeine and Paracetamol, try not to get into the habit of taking it if you can, just use paracetemol if you feel pain or st tIbuprofen rather if you can take it, because it has anti inflama.agent in it, but bestl thing to do is get in touch with your local GP who will be able to help you., best of luck

Hi there your probably high because they are a form of opiate effect they lift you so you don't feel the pain. Im an addict in recovery . When I took them in my active addiction they use to make me feel nauseous so I left the opiates alone. now im no doctor but since having the for pain they don't make me feel that way they relieve my pain though which is why I use them. Im on tramadol now so even stronger and to be honest like my doctor said ill get used to them to then its something else. Pain managing is far more better it gives one some sense of control still. As for addictive yes they are, but also if we are on long term usage that's inevitable anyhow. The only decision to be made is are you in enough pain and is this the right time to take them. I also spoke to someone who's dad had severe back pain and was medicated all his life but with so many meds his kidneys started to fail him so now he takes nothing . What this brought to my mind is that this man can manage now without so maybe I should be it is a worry after a while. I've decided to keep taking it but not to go to anything stronger its just more to filter. I only hope you don't find what I say confusing but if you can mange with out them and only take them when the pain is too much you'll be fine and they start at 8/500 then 15/500 and 30/500 if your on the latter maybe they are a bit strong and you could ask your doctor for the 8/500 that will do the trick. Also the most important thing is this is it fibro pain or another condition cause the med you need then will be a suitable fibro med that you need to talk to him about. Sorry for going on but just wanted to help fibro friend.

From what I understand from how Co codamol works it is a opioid stimulators my making your body make the effect that opiates would do. This can become addictive hench the downer your body craves the high.

As has been said earlier you good look at a lower dose. I am on 500/30 and I get after 30 minutes a sudden rush and thats it. But I have a very high tolerance to morphine.

Be Well

Hi I think most of the issues are covered already, I can only tell you from my own experience that codeine is highly addictive and an opiate based drug it is from the same family as heroin. What you describe does sound like an addiction. I would take a cocodomol when I got up in the morning, one when I got to work and then I wouldn't know when to take the next as I was telling myself I needed more. If I ran out my world feel apart and I even walked out of work one day so I could get some. I took myself off it after realising I was addicted it took my a month and withdrawal was horrendous but it was worth it in the long run. At the minute I take tramadol. X
