quick question, i may be getting a car from a friend soon. i want to apply for a blue badge. do i need to report that i have fibro to dvla

Morning bluebelle, when you fill the forms in for the badge you have to state on there the conditions you have and how far you can walk before having to stop, and theoretically speaking yes you should notify your insurance and DVLA because if u have an accident and it comes out that you have these conditions and you haven't let them know your insurance could become null and void, in others words no longer valid,...you don't have to have a car to obtain a blue badge, it's for you to use in any car that u are in...hope this helps...gentle hugs....Dee x

Did you know the criteria for a blue badge has changed, now you must have higher rate mobility and it now costs £20.00. I just got mine in August that's how I know.

Bluebell do apply dont worry if you are inneed you will get one mind paying towards it? In Scotland we pay a tenner towards them . The form is collected from the council office and returned there when completed . It is not any fuss and I would be totally lost with out mine.

I also didn't have an assessment, it was approved over the phone, then it arrived in the post, x

Hi I got my blue badge in December, I don't get DLA and it cost £10.00. I had an assessment at their office, she just asked about my walking problems and how a blue badge would help me.

I recommend that you apply You don't need to be in receipt of DLA. I wasn't in receipt of it or even ESA at the time of my application it cost £10 and a passport photo and I didn't even have an assessment I made my application on-line too not sure if that made a difference though!
I am in receipt of DLA and ESA -support now but wasn't used for blue badge application. If you don't apply you'll never know!!
I don't drive either I use it when my friends and family take me out, I take it with me when I travel about too because I can use it there. Very useful thing to have............... Go on apply for it my friend and good luck

You don't need DLA for a blue badge. And no, you don't need to notify the DVLA of FMS and because of that, neither do you have to notify your insurance company. The DVLA have a website that is clear about what you need to declare and I have researched this personally.

oh thanx peachy, ive had a licence for 18 yrs-clean lol, but i havn't driven for over 2yrs so im nervous & excited at the same time. to me it's freedom. :)xx
Bluebell it would be best to check with your local council as there seems to be a difference between them. For instance my council will only award a blue badge if you get higher rate DLA for mobility or the mobility part of PIP. They do do a discretionary badge but you need a consultant's report as as I have never seen a consultant and have not long submitted my PIP application I cannot get a blue badge, which makes life very difficult at times.

Hi bluebell why if you don't mind me asking were you refused dla? I was refused dla and didn't bother appealing but decided after a few mths I tried for pip and got it the standard rate of mobility but you have to have at least 8 points to get blue badge and cost £10 not sure if it's gone up. But if you have problems with your mobility I would try for pip again and get help filing the form in. Good luck hun x Jude
hi jude, bit of a long story but i was refused mobility part of dla 3 times as' altho i walked slow i wasn't unable to walk' was their reason,i was fed up of just taking it as read so decided to appeal it this time which was last june or so. i was at the same time awarded low care all this before i had a diagnose of fibro.. this was up for renewal in december last yr. then in october i was sent a letter saying i would no longer be entitled to it after december, even tho i hadn't got any better,they made their decision on a report from a dr who i had never seen & their health care so called professional! so im appealing that too. i did the self assessment for pip on here
&came out top rate for care & mobility. i don't think i can claim pip while i have an appeal going on can i? i was just fed up with people who don't even know me telling me i can do this & that, when i cant! its just so annoying isn't it. sorry for rambling on lol xx

I got blue badge 2 yrs ago in west sussex with a form £10 fee and supporting letters. At that time I had just got low level care no mobility after a long wait and a tribunal (disaster) I looked up DVLA rules and worked out i didnt need to notify them of my illness. There are lists of what we do have to tell them readily available on web. This march after a long wait and a long fight I came out from yet another tribunal with high rate mobility. The judge told me that if I could have used my hands well enough to propell myself in a wheelchair (i attended being pushed) I would not have qualified for high rate mobility! Lucky I didnt have a strong hand day then??? I won my case due to the help from a web company who were great. I am unaware of you not being able to apply for pips whilst still under appeal for dla. The whole country is in loggerheads for pips and the queues are enormouse to get dealt with. I have a friend in London who has been in pips queue for 18 months now after winning his esa tribunal only to be told, get in yet another queue! He attends a homeopathic specialist fybro hospital in London on the NHS. We are working through his meds list at the moment to see what we can get hold of and what we can get free or low cost. You don't have to be receiving HR Mobility but it does help if you are. If you do have a disability which makes walking very difficult but are not getting HR mobility this is called being eligible subject to further assessment, and will apply to you if you have a permanent and substantial disability which means you can’t walk or find walking very difficult. Councils now decide whether you fulfill the criteria and you don't need a car to use it. I often take my disabled friend who does not drive on outings and we park in a disabled bay using her blue badge. The majority of time you have to fill in a form and if they feel they are unable to make a decision from this you will be asked to go to their centre for an assessment. My friend said that the thereapist who assessed her was very nice and only watched her walking a short distance before deciding they should go back to the office and a Blue Badge was issued. If you are lucky enough to receive one still be careful where you park as sometimes even Blue Badge holders have to pay parking charges and you still have to park sensibly. The others are correct in saying that you should disclose any medical conditions to the insurers just to cover yourself. It will only become a problem if they consider it affects your ability to drive safely.Hope you get your car and good luck with the application. let us know how you get onx
hi rosewine, i have the form now which i got from the library, the lady who gave me the form said "from looking at you, you should qualify". going by the form i should be getting high pip, but im not so i am going to phone the people who issue the badge to explain to them that i cannot walk without pain. its there 24/7. i would be more than happy to go for an assesment if need be. thank you for your help & thank you everyone for your advice xx
I was going to say the same as Peachy. There's no harm in enquiring. Your insurance company may have different rules. There IS HARM if you have something notifiable you keep silent on. If you insurance is invalidated for any reason you are committing an offence and you don't want to be dealing with that or be carless on top of all your other troubles. I had no trouble with other things I thought might have been notifiable. Go for it, be up front and honest. Good luck. Fluffie hugs.

Hi, I did notify the DVLA of my fibro, they noted it and we agreed if I have had less than 5 hrs sleep I would not drive. On bad days I cant drive anyway. I told my insurance co and they said it wasnt notifyable. I have a blue badge, the DWP lady said to apply, so I downloaded the forms from my council and applied and got it. Its been a godsend. Hope you get yours.x
