My poor 4 year old granddaughter has been diagnosed with the virus mollescum contagium - it takes 9-12 months to run its course. Does anyone have any tips?

Nothing you can do about this, I'm afraid - but it will clear up on its own. It's very common in children, and though a bit unsightly, it is painless and causes no lasting damage.

Treatment is available for adults with persistent infection, but it isn't recommended for children as it may cause pain and scarring.

The best thing is to keep the skin very clean with gentle washing, and the child's nails very short to prevent picking or scratching which may spread the spots.

I hope the little soul is better soon!

Thanks moffy it's the itching at the moment that's driving her to distraction! She is very good and doesn't scratch just sort of rubs with the pads of her fingers x

Hi

Both of my kids got this, it sounds daft but raw onion juice rubbed on the spots can help clear the up, if you do it at bed time and wash it off in the morning as it can be a bit whiffy lol. I also heard garlic capsules do the same but you would have to break them open. Does your gd like foods with garlic in as garlic helps boost the immune system. It is a horrible complaint but doesn't normally last too long.

Hi

My kids did not last as long as that thankfully, it does take while but once the spots start going they go quickly.
