hi lovely,

I recently just had my first round (in the UK) and my sedation was fentanyl and something else. I was honestly petrified of this and really didn't want it, the anaesthetist was lovely and explained exactly what was going to happen. I fell asleep instantly and woke up after I have no recollection of the egg collection, and only minor pain after which was managed with paracetamol.

I hope this helps you feel less anxious, and best of luck!!

So you were not semi awake then

No it was 'conscious sedation' (that's what made me nervous) but I was out of it completely. Apparently I did talk to them but have no memory at all it was just like being asleep

Midazolam (powerful sedative) and fentanyl (powerful painkiller) were used. To me it felt a lot like being extremely drunk. I remember bits of it, but was aware during it that I couldn't remember things that had just happened, just like when very drunk. I remember feeling nervous in the whole lead up to it, then they put the fentanyl in and the room started spinning but I still felt very nervous (this is normal) and then as soon as the midazolam hit me, it just felt lovely and calm and dreamy. Honestly had quite a good time 😂

Hi, I had my egg collection done in Lister and it was great. Please don't be afraid of sedation. I know it's easy to say but honestly it's not like full anesthesia it's more like sleeping pills trough iv. The whole proces from the point to give medicine up to woke up at recovery room took less than 20 mins. You won't feel sick or anything you will just naturally wake up they will offer you drink no pain at all. Good luck 🤞

What medication did they use

I have the GA once for ER and one for hysteroscopy. Both times I was sedated and did not know a thing. First time I took long wakeup but the first I asked was when can I go back to gym 😂😂😂my doctor was laughing. This is what I remember. I mean, I was really serious. 2nd time I guess they pushed the oral tube too much into my throat i had severe throat pain for a few days after it. But otherwise it was the best sleep I ever had in years I believe. Don't be afraid, I was anxious but at same time I was kind of curious what I would experience going into sleep consciously. But all went well, just make sure you don't eat too much or gas stuff a day before. It's awkward that there for 4 doctors/assistants around you asking all weird questions to check if you still awake or not & sometimes you are still awake but would not react and you can see them placing all the heavy stuff on you. It was an experience itself. Just take it easy and see it as an experience. Good luck.

i have had the conscious sedation 6 times and have never remembered a thing, I fall asleep within seconds of having it and wake up feeling like I’ve had the best sleep ever! Whilst it’s an anethitist that gives it its not anaesthetic just sedation so you don’t get that groggy sick feeling after either. I wish I could have it at night sometimes 🤣 I was honestly so worried the first time but it’s really not as bad as you think or even at all! I never slept a wink the night before the first one and I was actually so glad after I woke up as I felt like a new women sleep wise! I don’t get much pain from the collection itself either just a bit of cramping bloating for a day or so xx

I don’t know the exact medication but it doesn’t really matter It’s heavy sedation. It goes in through a cannula. It’s like general anaesthetic in that you are completely out of it and wake up afterwards. But with general anaesthetic they have to artificially breathe for you and with this sedation you are still breathing yourself. It is also much easier to recover from than general anaesthetic too.

of course it’s daunting and that can feel scary but I actually just felt like I’d had a lovely Power Nap after!

The sedation is the best part of the whole process for me! 🤣 I was so nervous as well, but they gave it to me through IV, I closed my eyes because I was anxious and I fell asleep almost immediately. I don't remember anything from there other than feeling amazing afterwards! Apparently I kept telling my partner how much I love him. It was almost like being a bit tipsy 😄

I have no idea which meds they used, but I'm kind of looking forward to having it again for my next egg collection 😄

hello lovely, I’ve had my egg collection at Lister and it was great - nothing to worry about! At the time, I was given Propofol but things may have changed now… I suggest you ask the team? They’re honestly great and I am sure they will share all the relevant info with you.

Propofol?! Didnt know they use it for light sedation in the uk! That's super strong and ca be dangerous

I am pretty sure that was the name of the medication… now you’re making me double guessing! I was completely fine anyways but of course worth checking with the clinic staff… I may have remembered incorrectly! Best of luck

I don’t know what drugs I had but it was conscious sedation and I was awake for the whole thing. I also had gas and air which helped and it wasn’t painful.

I'm not sure exactly, it wasn't stated but u bad conscious sedation meaning I was awake. I think this is how it's done in most clinics. I was given an iv drip and a mask and I just remember the roof going funny. I think my words were "woah this is some serious weird shit" lol I didn't feel anything, a tiny bit of discomfort at start then felt nothing. Couldn't feel eggs being extracted or nothing. Most people nod off into a very light sleep , lucky sods but unfortunately I wasn't one of them
