I had my initial consultation with my NHS clinic via telephone back in July where I was told due to possible male factor (low count, 9m) we may go straight to IVF.
As next steps I was sent for AMH testing (results came back 11 pmol) and my partner for a second semen analysis (currently awaiting results).
I have my follow up appt in 2 weeks, again via telephone.
If we assume partners sperm count doesn't improve, so initial IVF comment from doc stands, and based on my AMH levels meaning I should be ok to qualify too - what should I expect next? How quickly will it all move?
If anyone can share their experiences/timelines would be greatful - it's the not knowing that makes you overthink everything!!!
Thank you

From my own experience, it was nothing to do with male factor that was all good and my AMH is very low for my age, im 28, tested at 27 and was 5pmol. I was tested in September and then again in November where it came back 7pmol. I was sent straight for IVF, had to wait around two months to get the funding approved etc and then my treatment would be at a private clinic but also accept NHS patients. About feb March time we had our consultation with clinic r.e treatment plan, i then had couple more blood tests requested by clinic which are routine ones but my thyroid came back higher than they wanted to i was given meds for this and it was a waiting game to get this down. We then had our first round July/August which sadly wasn’t successful but starting second round now. So roughly from November 2021 my final test to July 2022, but baring in kind probs could have started April 2022 had it not been for my thyroid! Hope this gives an insight to time frame x
Thanks for coming back to me, and sharing your experience - that's good to know.
Sorry to hear your first round wasn't successful, i really hope this round works for you!
I guess my worry is that along with everything else I'm also 38, so really hope that we can move quite quickly as feel like there is lots of time wasting waiting for appts and don't want my AMH to drop further
How did you find egg collection (based on low amh), if you don't mind me asking? X
I knew I wouldn’t get many eggs due to how low it was. I responded well to medication, all follicles were a safe size and similar size which is what my clinic look for. I had 9 follicles (I honestly think the first scan is the scariest bit as thats when you find out your baseline for egg collection!) out of the 9 we got 5 eggs, 2 eggs were not mature so didn’t make it but the other 3 made it to embryo. The number of follicles doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll get that many eggs as some follicles don’t contain eggs, so considering how low my AMH is I was ok with it lol. With 11pm im sure you’ll get quite a few though! X
hi, we had our initial call the start of June. We already knew it was male factor but my tests were out of date so they confirmed they wanted them all repeated. I got a follow up call early/ mid august to talk about some vaccinations I needed up dating and to book us into a September appointment. I started my treatment late October. So from first phone call appointment to first jab maybe 4.5 months. But obviously I had tests and vaccinations I had to give time for. Good luck!
