Hi guys

It’s a tricky one morally and ethically as personally I don’t condone effectively defrauding a publicly funded system like the NHS. But at the same time the times aren’t always fair if you are in an area which only finds one round ? And I’m not sure what the rules are if you have private treatment abroad rather than in the U.K? my concern would always be that as you have to lie about not having treatment before as most clinics treat your first cycle like a bit of a tester cycle to see how you react you wouldn’t be able to pass on any valuable knowledge and may end up doing a protocol you know didn’t work last time and therefore waste the one opportunity you do have?
If you are looking to receive care during the pregnancy/give birth with NHS then you need to tell them and to be honest I don’t think they even care if you had treatment abroad, as long as you are now entitled to NHS care. If you don’t want to use their services at all and will give birth abroad I don’t think they need to know x
If it is for antenatal care post treatment abroad, then you should tell, I don't think it's their concern where you got pregnant. In my view if they have an issue with that it will be discrimination.
In the other scenario of having had ivf abroad and now it's your NHS cycle I would think the only reason to tell is if there are clinical reasons, for example you discovered that something will work better / won't work at all.
If you are in a part of the UK that they take away any private treatments from your NHS entitlement then it's tricky.
It is so unfair, they only give a limited chance of cycles when the NICE guidelines say to give 3 for better chances (depending on age). And if you try to pay for some treatment before any NHS cycles then you are being punished and they won't give you any.
I think its really important you tell your GP it's an IVF pregnancy, if nothing else it proves how wanted and important this child is. The fact you went abroad is irrelevant and shouldn't have any impact on your care. We have always had to be private IVF due to our age and its never made any difference when I have told maternity nurses etc. Congrats on your pregnancy x
Agree with the others. When I told them it was an IVF pregnancy they didn’t ask where or who paid for it - but it’s good to tell them so they’ve got all the info when they take care of you and do risk assessments etc. Good luck and congrats 🥳
Thanks for the advice ladies.
