Has anyone had success with a 3BCC blastocyst?

Hi ladies,

After my recent failed 5AA fresh transfer, I’ve decided to have my last blastocyst transferred , the clinic have warned it’s unlikely to work and may not even survive thaw stage, but as I’ve got low AMH and I’m not sure I want to go for another around again , this could be my last chance.

I just wondered if anyone has success using a 3BCC ? X

Wow talk about negative…(not you!) Sorry your clinic has been so doom and gloom! I did a triple transfer and a 3bcc was my best of the three and I was told it was ‘great news’ I did get pregnant but sadly miscarried (nothing to do with embryo quality)

It’s normal for them to say it may not survive the thaw stage, they always remind you that, but “unlikely to work”?! How ridiculous. Did the doctor say this them self or just someone else at the clinic, and did they give you a reason why it’s unlikely? Every clinic grades differently and it’s also completely subjective based on the opinion of the embryologist doing the grading, but they wouldn’t freeze an embryo that they didn’t think had a chance.

Unless they are able to explain to you why it was unlikely to work, ignore them. 3BC embryo babies are born all the time. You are in with just as much chance as the next person.

It was the embryologist, she said they don’t usually freeze 3BCC , but given our circumstances they gave us the option. She said it’s unlikely to work but not impossible, so we took the chance x

I don't understand why they added an extra C. The first letter is for inner cell mass and the second is for trophectoderm- I've never seen a third. Did they explain? I have quite a few BC embryos frozen and I've always been told they are good. Either way- I have seen so many women with 'badly' rated embryos have successful pregnancies. How they look says nothing about their DNA. Fingers crossed xxx

Yeah she said something like if they can’t 100% tell if they are b/c they refer them as a double CC , the inner cell mass she said is a B, but the trophectodem (important bit) is a CC 😢 x

Research suggests that they are not sure which one is the 'important bit'. Some show the better trophectoderm leads to a live birth and some studies suggest it's the inner cell mass that's more important. There's was this paper that was really useful in outlining all the research on embryo grading. It comes down to that you have less percentage of it working with lower rated embryos but there's always a good chance. So you may have an AA with 50% and a CC with 20% (not sure if these are right but I remember them being around these numbers). But age is also really important here. If you are younger than 40 you have much higher chance with a lower grade embryo then someone above this age. When the doctor says it's unlikely it sounds like he's suggesting something really low like a 1% chance and that is simply nonsense. It's more likely to fail than succeed but every IVF cycle only has a 30% chance of success- so we are already aware of these chances. The fact you have something frozen is good and there is absolutely every chance it will work. Xxx

Thanks hun, it’s heartbreaking as I just had a failed fresh transfer using a 5AA, the only one I have left now is 3BCC , it’s hard to be positive as I feel deflated x

My best friend had six failed rounds with all her best embryos - she had three left but they were the worst three. She transferred 2 grade 3s and one of them is now 2, she transferred her last grade 3 2 years later and she is now 3 months old. It’s not always the grading so positive head on and good luck xx

To be honest I have never felt positive during my ivf journey and I don't think this is weird or wrong. But it is important to be realistic and that also means recognising the chance you have in your embryo succeeding. When my first 5AA ended in a miscarriage I became so obsessed with grading. I had a transfer of a 3BB after and in hindsight I feel so disappointed that I was so determined it didn't stand a chance because the 5AA failed. The consultant said it was ridiculous because they don't often had 5AA graded embryos so my expectations were completely wrong. They said most women have pregnancies from lower graded embryos. Sadly the 3BB never stood a chance as I started bleeding only 4 days after the transfer because I had low progesterone but it may have been the one. I later used to imagine having to confess to a beautiful child that I considered binning them because they didn't look pretty enough as an embryo I have a couple of BCs frozen and I'm not allowed having a double transfer because the chance of twins is too high. Xxx

i feel so upset when i read these posts, i wish some clinics weren't so negative as far as grades Cs are concerned. ive been in these IVF forums for a while and seen many having success with B and C grades after their As failed. im currently 32 weeks with a BC and suffered throughout my egg collection/2ww because as all i'd read about these embryos on google was bad and i genuinely thought i had NO chance.... some internet sites even suggest any C should be discarded. my clinic was very clear, plenty of babies have been born from C grades!! please dont lose hope. X
