Day 5 stims scan - someone rein my brain in please! 😩😥

Hey lovelies.

I went for my Day 5 (short protocol) scan today and my head is a bit all over the place. I’m a low AMHer so knew my numbers wouldn’t be great but so far only have 4 follicles (left, none on right) and they are quite small (6-9mm). Waiting on blood test results to find out if they intend to up my meds dosage from tonight - I don’t think I’m far off the max dose anyway. My rational self knows it’s still early days and there’s time to go yet, only need one quality egg/embryo etc but just feeling really disheartened and worried it’s not going to be a good outcome 😢😟Apparently I also have some fluid in my lining which might mean having to freeze any embryos and come back for a transfer at a later date. I’ve got scans booked every other day so trying to keep my fingers crossed. Pretty please, help a girl out! Has anyone got any stories/info/advice that might stop my head unraveling into a spin and letting in tons of negative thoughts?! Thank you 🙏🏻 xx

Hi Nicola I’m a fellow low AMHer. It’s so hard when you’re dealing with low numbers. I had a failed short protocol round in December and only had 3 follicles. They managed to get 2 eggs and 2 embryos though. It’s so hard not to overthink. I knew my AMH was low but I’m not sure my clinic prepared me for such low numbers. It’s still fairly early days for you and they can grow up to 2mm a day so don’t give up hope! I know it’s hard to believe but it really is quality over quantity. I have to keep reminding myself of that. Thinking of you and hope those 4 follicles grow lots over the next few days ✨🌟🍀🍀 Xx

Thanks so much for your reply ILHB I really appreciate it ☺️ Mine had said that really I’m only looking at 2-3eggs but I suppose I was expecting more follicles to be able to get to that. I had 9 on my last AFC too so was a shock that’s not the case this time and now I’m questioning if it’s something I’ve been doing/not doing! Perhaps I am worrying too much and need to focus on the fact I can still get some decent little blasts from these 4. Thank you for the positivity and I hope it will help me wake up tomorrow with less of a fog 💜 Need to do what I can to get these ones I’ve got growing well! Wishing you lots of luck for your next cycle too - you’re due to start soon? 🍀🙂 xx

It’s hard not to question everything! Yes hopefully starting another round soon. We were booked in for another private round but then got a call from the nhs clinic to say we were at the top of the waiting list! I wasn’t expecting it at all because previously we’d been told January 2022. We’ve got a planning appointment tomorrow. Lots of luck for your follicles ✨🍀🌟 Xxx

Hope all went well with your planning appointment this week and great news your NHS around came through so unexpectedly. Maybe it’s fate! 🥰🤞🏼x

Hey there

I think day 5 is still really early for assessing how things are. Having being through 3 IVF rounds, I know the early scans can look disappointing. Overtime, your follicles can shoot up in size and also recruit more.

I just had a EC on Friday and I know when they scanned me on day 5, they could only see 7 follicles growing, this increased to 10 at my next scan and in the end they got 13 eggs! I should let you know that I don’t have low AMH but because of my age (43) I am also on high doses of medication. Do you mind me asking what dose you are on?

I am also aware that a lot of people with low AMH on this forum have gone on to have successes with only a few eggs and embryos. Some clinics even promote Mild IVF for people with low AMH with the logic that it is quality over quantity! I know that for a fact because out of my own 13 eggs, 9 were mature and only 5 fertilised! 😒

Meanwhile for my last cycle when they only got 6, 4 were mature and all 4 fertilised successfully.

So if possible, stay positive and think it is early days. Wishing you all the best for stims and EC!

😊 Thank you so much for taking the time to reply JoyfulStar, really appreciate it and trying to keep me focussed on the positives. You are right, it’s still such early days and good to know that things can still change quite a lot before collection.

I was thinking I’ve read about people doing it more naturally with low AMH. Certainly something to look into more if this cycle isn’t successful. So I’ve been increased so now on dose of 450 (mixture of Menopur and Bemfola). Fingers crossed it works. Also worried about the lining issue and impact that might have but just going to have to take it one day at a time I guess!

Wishing you so much luck and baby thoughts for your cycles and when you are ready to transfer 💜🍀🙏🏻 Xx

Thanks Nic_o_la_la 🤗

If you are on 450 now which is exactly what I was on for my recent cycle then maybe you will see a difference? On a separate note, I know how scary it is waiting for embryos to turn to blastocysts. I have been through it twice and currently going through it now for round 3.. Today is day 4 and I find out tomorrow if any of my embryos will be good to be frozen. 😓

Taking each day at a time helps. Also, after my first BFN I had to reevaluate what success looks like and personally I find it helps to be realistic that sometimes things may not always work out. Therefore I celebrate any little success that comes my way in this IVF journey whilst also keeping faith that somehow all will turn out well.

Wishing you all the best and sending lots of good positive vibes your way Xxx

Thanks for your reply JoyfulStar. It’s certainly been helpful to remember to focus on the small wins this last few days! I have seen this morning that this round hasn’t worked out for you so just wanted to say I’m sorry. I’m sure you’re really disappointed after being so hopeful and seems you have such a great outlook and approach to the IVF. I hope you get some answers from your consultation and keep that faith you mentioned to me for your future cycle. You’ve still got some lovely embabies waiting for you 💜🍀 x

Thank you so much. You are such a sweetheart! 🤗

I was very disappointed but I am still overall hopeful. This journey is such an emotional rollercoaster! 🎢

At day 3, I had 4 embryos still going strong but alas it was not meant to be 😔

I am hoping to learn from my last rubbish round to give myself the best possible chance. That is all I can do at this point as well as pray that all will work out well in the end!

Take care and keep celebrating the little wins! 😌 I would love to know how you get on ❤️

Hi Nic_o_la_la. Not what you want to hear, but if they can get you to egg collection and create some embryos to store frozen, that would be good. They will be quite safe while they are sorting out your fluid issue. As soon as it is, then you can proceed with a FET. Good luck! Diane

Thanks Diane! 😊 I think it’s just the knock on to delaying transfer if it’s FET etc that’s made me a bit sad today. And knowing they have to be good enough quality to freeze. I know it’s not a big thing in the grand scheme of it and all the waiting already but it’s just so frustrating have the knock backs and feeling out of control. Keeping everything crossed!xx

Heyy Nic_o_la_la how did it go with the rest of your stims??

Hey! I had my meds upped so I was on max dose for the rest of the stims. I basically had 3 follicles in play (lost one but another appeared later on but was too small) and they kept growing which was ace. They got 3 mature eggs from them which was the best news we could have got :) We got one normally fertilised embryo from those 3 and our little Easter embaby 🐣 was transferred back on Day 2. I was quite nervous about it being such an early transfer but the embryologist was quite clear it’s got a better, fighting chance being back at home in the natural environment as soon as possible than in the Petri dish when there’s only one! Got my test in a couple of days so holding out for a positive! 🤞🏼 This 2WW has been the hardest part!! How are things with you? Have you been able to start your round this month as you hoped?xx
