I’m going to have to have ivf after having both my Fallopian tubes removed after I was found to have a hydrosalpinx and then endometriosis. I haven’t had any meeting with my gp yet. I’m just wanting a bit of guidance on how you started your nhs funded ivf journeys and also how long from starting the process to actually beginning ivf was it for you?

Hello. Did you have a fertility referral initially and that's how they found out about the hydrosalpinx? That's what my process was so I was already in the fertility system- I had my surgery at the end of July last year, follow up with consultant mid September at which we did the IVF funding application and referral to the IVF clinic. Had first appointment at the clinic end of October and started first cycle of IVF on 1st Jan this year. We got 2 embryos from that cycle. The first one didn't work but we had the second one transferred in April and I'm now 17 weeks pregnant.
My route to my surgery was more complicated. I had private IUI and didn’t go to my gp before i had iui as I’m in a same sex relationship and knew I wouldn’t qualify for anything. My hydrosalpinx was found after I started my fourth round of iui with clomid. I was then referred back to my gp to get referred to gyne to have lap to see why I had they hydrosalpinx. During the lap they found the endometriosis and that my second tube needed removed. I had my follow up after surgery and was told I should qualify for nhs treatment but because my route was not standard my consultant was a little confused as to where to start. I think I need to see my gp now to start from scratch. I’m just so confused
I’d been referred to a gynaecologist because I was having painful periods (I was also struggling to conceive but that couldn’t be used at the reason for referral as it hadn’t been 2 years). The gynaecologist got all my tests done and referred me to the fertility clinic. It was about a a year until my first appointment but everything moved quickly from there. First appointment October last year, started ivf in jan this year and was very luck to fall pregnant first cycle. Good luck to you xx
Ours was about a year in total but it all depends on waiting times in your area and what tests you need done. It sounds like you have had a few tests already so hopefully this will shorten your time. Good luck x
