Hi i had my last scan on Friday and had 1 follicle at 18, 1 at 16 1 at 15, 4 at 11, 2 at 9 and a few at 8 and 6. I still had 2 or 3 days of stims to go so felt hopeful. The clinic said it may be a transfer on the Tuesday or Wednesday. However at the rate of growth i really wanted 3 days of stims and the Wednesday transfer to give them the best chance. The clinic decided however on the Tuesday transfer with only 2 more stims. They collected 10 eggs which was amazing however i got the call today to say only 2 had fertilised. Looking at a 2 day transfer if they are at embryo stage in the morning. This is my only shot. They will transfer both eggs if possible. I just cant help feeling that another day would of helped and my eggs would of been more mature and ready to be fertilised.
Anyone else felt like this. I may be overthinking and just very sad that i have no back up. I guess they know best though.
I'm 41 this month and this was my 1 and only shot.
I am sorry about your eggs. However i once saw a vlog on you tube. a young woman had 21 eggs collected and she was over the moon. Of the 21 only one fertilised she cried rivers. however that one resulted in a little boy. Lets hope that the two that fertilised will be all you need.
In my experience it’s not been uncommon to see a retrieval of even twenty eggs only to have a couple fertilize. Number is one thing and age is another. For a 41 year old I’d say you did splendidly! And as mentioned in an earlier comment, it only takes one. 😊
To put your mind at rest you could ask your clinic the size of the follicles when the retrieval was done. If you want to get further technical you could ask about egg quality, if they do that. The most vigorous growth takes place in the last 36 hours and too big is not great, so waiting an extra day could likely not be in your best interests.
