Thank you i just want to know what the best weight would be to try my 4th cycle. Im anorexic in a eating disorder unit currently trying to restore weight but its so difficult. I just want my own family and i just wondered if there was anyone who had successfully done it following this horrible illness xx

Aw hunny this must be incredibly difficult and frustrating for you. IVF is difficult enough without the added pressure of another illness, especially one that can be all consuming. You are clearly in the right place for treatment and that in itself is incredibly brave of you. As Diane has said it is likely that your clinic will want you with a BMI of between 19-25 to give your treatment the best chance of working. I wish you well with your treatment hunny and although I have never had anorexia I have struggled with mental illness myself and I know it can just take over your life I have a lot of respect for you gaining help to reach your dreams, if you ever need to chat if your climbing the walls in the unit please feel free to DM me, lots of love x x x

I’ve not been through both myself but have been through IVF and looked after a lady as her GP who went through IVF following anorexia and depression. Unfortunately the anorexia had an impact on her ovarian function. Xx

Hi Gor123. The problem with anorexia is building up your BMI to at least 19 if possible in order to get ovulation to start again. However, if the weight can get back to within normal limits, then the specialists can sort out the ovulation, hopefully. Good luck if this you. Diane

Hi Diane thank you. My BMI dropped to 14 but im currently in a eating disorder unit which is helping me restore weight. Its very difficult but i really want to try my 4th cycle with the best possible chance.

Kind Regards xx

Hi Gor123. Oh bless you! I don't know you, but I'm so proud that you are trying hard, and because of that you will get there. I was the other way it was tough at the time, but I realise how tough it is to put the weight on too. Sending you love and hugs, and I shall be thinking of you. Diane xx

Hi Gor123, no personal experience, but a friend of mine has a sister who suffered from anorexia and who, after getting a normal BMI, conceived in a few month time, so perhaps you will not even need IVF.

I am 56 years old. I became a severe Anorexic at 14. I began menstruation at age 11. When Anorexia took me I completely stopped my cycle for 5 years. The weight that I lost caused this. My doctors told me long ago that I would never have children. I had messed up my body too bad. I gained some weight and got pregnant without any drugs to help do that. I never did IVF or anything. The weight was all that I needed to get my cycle going again. Wish you the best.
