Not at this stage of my treatment it doesn’t no. All geared up for EC on Monday with a provisional transfer booked for the following Saturday and then I read something like this.. (I actually read this on Facebook earlier) and it makes me feel like we’re cutting our chances of success before I’ve even had my EC 😫 xx

I don’t know as I’ve only ever had fresh embryo transfers but it is is an interesting article. Thanks for sharing x

I read this and after 3 failed transfers, said to my husband that my body doesn’t feel like itself with all the medications etc that I’m injecting.

It makes sense to me but I guess you run the risk of not having any embryos good enough to freeze.

This cycle, no matter how many eggs/embryos we get, they want to watch them until day 5 & we have agreed to this, knowing that we might not get to transfer in the hope it will provide more information. If we still get a bfn, we only have one more round we could afford, so I would ask for the frozen transfer as I feel I have nothing to lose x

Ps: we have always had top grade embryos but just not many eggs collected so have never been able to freeze. They don’t feel that egg quality is the issue x

They were offering for us to be part of the research into this at our hospital but we declined. We simply didn't want to wait and we had also read other stuff that said embryos didn't always survive the thaw process we made me question it too. Who knows eh?! X

Good point - I’ve heard this - I wonder if they factor this data into the study? 🤔 Would be good to have the original research paper to see if they’ve considered this...

Wonder if the thawing in this situation is another part of the ‘selection’ process (i.e. the ones that survive the thawing are potentially stronger & therefore more likely to implant, increasing success rates?)

I think he jury’s still out. There’s an nhs trial at the moment which will hopefully get enough numbers to give reliable statistics. Two friends of mine cycled at same time, one used fresh, one frozen and both worked. I think it’s down to luck more than anything x

Out of 5 transfers I’ve got pregnant on 3 of them, all frozen! But sadly miscarried (not the Frosties fault!) but I definitely believe my body really doesn’t appreciate all the craziness of a fresh cycle, but that’s just my experience, I’ve still not got my miracle baby so who bloody knows, it’s all witchcraft!! Xx

Yep! I’m having a biopsy on Tuesday to test for some things that maybe causing the miscarriages and then some regular tests as well and we will make a new treatment plan! We have two embryos on ice so we will see, fingers crossed! Xx

I’ve only had one fresh transfer and that ended in a chemical!! About to have our first frozen transfer in a weeks time and have to say it’s a lot less stressful and just a few injections!! So we’ll see what this one brings......hopefully our very own 👶🤞🤞🤞 xxx

I’m pretty sceptical about the way this report is written. It uses stats pretty creatively, eg suggesting that 50% of the clinic’s ivf cycles will be successful which isn’t actually what the stats say. Getting to the point of having an embryo graded highly enough to be frozen is already going to increase your likelihood of success, whether it is actually frozen or not. Also, the fact that they quote the cost of an ivf cycle being £2,500 makes me sceptical—- anyone found an ivf cycle as cheap as that anywhere in the UK?! If they’ve got that wrong, I suspect they’ve got other things wrong in the article too. I would say it sounds like a promising piece of research but the article isn’t good enough to be basing decisions on. We have to trust our consultants to be reading and analysing the original research and deciding if it is the best route for our own individual circumstances.

I think all research programmes are worth noting but for me the number of continued pregnancies seems to be a grey area. Live birth stats would be helpful.
