OHSS gone but hospital won’t see me for frozen transfer until I have 2 periods

Did anyone else have this?? My periods are irregular as it is and if I have to wait for 2 this could go on months. I’m gutted. I was so close but stupid OHSS just pushed it back for me now. I’m feeling better but back to being on hold now for months 😢

Hey lovely, sorry to hear that. I was told today i’ll be on a freeze all because of risk of OHSS, they haven’t told me yet how long I need to wait. Interested in the answer to this. Thought I could start from day 21 of my next period.

Patience is not a virtue I possess. Boooooo!!

It will be ok though... I read frozen transfers have better results, so that’s something. Chin up xxx

Are they definitely going to freeze yours even before you show any signs of OHSS? I was fine until after EC when I got moderate OHSS.

I’m fine now but absolutely gutted I might have to wait so long. There is a slightly higher success rate with a frozen transfer so I guess that is something. Xx

I am so bloated and uncomfortable already so dreading after EC given gore experience. my estrogen levels were so high too that they said I need to prepare for the possibility. They will confirm after egg collection but consultant said highly likely.

Onwards and upwards.

Drinking coconut water and praying for the best.

Are you feeling better? Xx

Oh bless you. I completely feel for you because I was exactly the same. I ended up with so much fluid round my ovaries after egg collection my stomach was like a balloon. I’m glad your drinking lots of fluids. Wishing you all the best xx

I am feeling much better thank you which I think is why I’m so frustrated with having to wait. My transfer was meant to be last Saturday so I’m kicking myself that I wasn’t well enough then for it to go ahead xx

Bless you - hope time passes quickly for all of us. I understand your dissapointment, it hit me squarely in the face today.

I have a waddle going on - I actually look pregnant or like I’ve consumed a shed load of pies!!. Looking forward to feeling normal again. Take care xx

Thank you. I know we wait such a long time for this! I was exactly the same. It does go honestly. Good luck xx

So you also have to have 2 bleeds then? I’m so irregular this could go on ages for me 😢 xx

in reply tokirstyblue

Yeh x I do my withdrawal bleed has come on very heavy. At first I was devastated they had to freeze but then looking back I think it has better safer results x

Thank you for replying. At the time I was in so much agony with OHSS it was a relief to allow my body time to recover but now that it has I just feel like my life’s on hold again.

Good luck with your cycle xx

I think this is relatively normal. They want to ensure you are in the best condition and allow your body to recover from all the treatment before starting again. I hope your fet goes well xx

Thank you. Just finding the waiting game frustrating but I know I’m not alone. Good luck to you too xx

Thanks. I just completed my first ivf and got 3 blasts to day 5 but only one was good enough to transfer and they wouldn't freeze the others so it really was our only shot. We only got 1 go on the nhs and ffortunately got our bfp with a singleton. Currently 8 weeks 3 days and praying they stick around. Xx

Wow so lucky to get your BFP. Wishing you all the best x

Can you talk to your clinic about making your cycle more regular? They can give you drugs to induce bleeds can’t they? Worth a chat to see if they have any ideas.

My nurse said if I don’t come on in the next couple weeks they might..I’m just being impatient I know lol xx

It took me 2 cycles to recover from my OHSS after my failed IUI and they wouldn’t start IVF until then either... wish you the best

Hello, I had OHSS with a four night stay in hospital, it makes you so so poorly.

I had to wait for 2 periods as well. At the time it felt like forever. One but if advice, as I started my second one I called and booked in. This way I was able to start suprecur injections on day 21 rather than seeing them, waiting for my third to start and then waiting for day 21.

Did you manage to have your eggs collected for a FET this time?

Xxxxxx

I’ve had my EC but was too poorly to go ahead with the transfer. Now I’m feeling fine but it’s just a waiting game now.

I hope your feeling well again xx

I think its pretty common for clinics to want a couple of bleeds and also time to let your ovaries settle down after egg collection/OHSS/failed cycles. This may be a daft question but would the clinic let you go on the pill to allow you to have a couple of regular cycles? I know none of us want to be on the pill but may be better than waiting for your period if you are irregular.xx

I have just recovered from hospitalised OHSS and they want me to to do a trial cycle or two before a natural transfer, so all sounds quite normal from what I have been told. Hope things get moving again for you soon. The waiting is so stressful!

I think your clinic is giving you good advice, I was planning to have my FET this month after one proper period as well as withdrawal bleed and haven't eve had my LH surge(never happened in 2 years or taking ovulation tests) and didn't even have a dominant follicle on scan this month, so will have to wait for next month..... I think it takes a while for your body to recover, and I wish my clinic would have giving me this advice...... oh and I didn't even end up having OHSS no symptoms at all by the time it would have been my fresh embryo transfer, really frustrating but I guess you've got to trust the process 😘😘😘😘 xxxxxxxxxx

Sorry to hear you’re having to wait for transfer - but it will give your body time to get back to normal after OHSS and you’ll have the best possible chance of a BFP! Hope the wait goes quickly for you.

Sending loads of love💕

I feel your pain. My egg transfer got cancelled as my lining didn't get thick enough. I got told need to wait for 2 periods before starting FET. withdrawal bleed counted as one. I have irregular cycles so they said if I didn't get a second period by 6 weeks after egg collection to call and get drugs to kick things off. I was so upset at the time, I just kept thinking what could have been. But it goes quicker than you think and I just tried to focus on going forward. If you can't put it out your mind you might plan something nice for what would have been OTD. That was a tough day.

My friend suggested doing mindfulness course app. It's not usually my thing but I did find it helped me say focused.

Good luck hope the time goes quickly for you.

Thank you for your reply. So are you still waiting for a period? I was hoping to have come on by now as my nurse said egg collection should trigger a period but still nothing. I have to wait a couple weeks then ring them. Feel like I’m going to be waiting months. Good luck to you too x

I got my period 10 days after what should have been transfer day. Then nothing so I phoned on 6 weeks after egg collection, like they said. They gave me an appointment but I actually got my period before I went for my appointment. They said it didn't matter anyway. I've beven given a prostap injection and now just waiting for my second appointment next week to see what happens next. But I think it's about 10 days of drugs the fingers crossed for transfer.

It does feel likes ages, but once you start you'll forget it all and just be happy to start again.

I don't really know about funding. I am in Scotland so we are exceptionally lucky to get 3 funded attempts. I was worried that fet would count as attempt 2 but I found out its only counted as an attempt after they do a transfer.

Also do you know how this affects ivf funding?? As that is only meant to be valid for 6 months..xx
