Ive had a couple of scans now and they cant see my left ovary - beginning to wonder if I actually have one? Anyone else had this problem?

Hi debh1. Sometimes an ovary can be hidden behind the uterus, which then makes it difficult to scan. You might find that your consultant may want to do a laparoscopy, so he/she can have a look round. Once it is located, and should you need IVF they will know where to find it! Sounds a bit bizarre not to be able to find an ovary, but it is rare to only have one ovary. Fingers crossed all works out well for you. Kind regards. Diane

thanks Diane...im actually in the middle of IVF at the moment. The hope is that after taking gonal-f for a week or so it will show itself - if not then sounds as if they will just use the right hand side one

Hi. Oh, let’s hope all goes well with egg retrieval. They may still be able to get to the “sneaky” ovary on the day. I’ve seen this happen before now, so here’s hoping! Diane

debh,

Hopefully the other ovary will make itself known further into the cycle after some more stimulation. However, if it does not appear, don't worry, I only have 1 and the consultants are not too worried. After all it only takes 1 egg! Fingers crossed it appears for you and good luck with your cycle. x

Well had my egg retrieval yesterday and still no sight of the elusive left ovary. Managed to get six eggs out of the right hand side one (two of which are being transferred back in tomorrow).....keeping fingers crossed. No idea how some ladies manage to keep going through several cycles of ivf - this is my first one and I've well and truly had enough already.
