Starting IVF injections on day 4 of cycle instead of day 2/3?

I'm starting my first round of IVF, and was told that I need to start my injections on day 2 or 3 of my cycle. The clinic initially told me that if I started my period on Friday afternoon or Saturday morning that I'd start my injections on Monday. However, I started my period late on the Sunday afternoon, and they're now telling me to start injections on Wednesday evening (which I calculate as being day 4 of my cycle).

When I questioned this, the nurse said: "Stimulation medications can be started Wednesday, Friday or Sundays and need to be started on days 2 to 3 of your cycle. As you period started yesterday afternoon this makes today day 1 of your cycle. This makes Wednesday your day 3."

However, that makes no sense to me and seems really contradictory. Also surely the day you start your period is day 1 of your cycle? I was initially told if I started my period Friday afternoon (day 1) or Saturday morning (day 2) I would still start Sunday evening (day 2 or 3). Therefore if I've started Sunday afternoon (day 1) surely I start on Tuesday evening (day 3)?

Has anyone else had this? As seems like they're pushing it back a day to fit their clinic's preference on start days. Will it make any difference to my treatment or should I not worry about it? The nurse is currently ignoring me...

Hi Dear,

I understand you are unsettled and they did not give you very clean instructions.

Do not know if this helps but indeed the explanation is correct!

If your period start say Sunday after 12pm I.e the 2 nd half of the day, you do not count that day. Monday will officially be your Day1 of the cycle and hence 1 st day of your period.

This has been the constant theory I have been told by all doctors and clinics so far

Also to add, I am not medical expert, but for all my checkups and IUI and IVF cycles, I have seen my ovaries are quite( no follicle growth) until my heavy bleeding is gone.. so say Day 3 or 4 of cycle and that is when I am asked to start the stimulation .

Hope you get some answers from these lovely ladies who has more experience

Gi if you start period late like after 12 then next day will be your day 1 but they mostly say after having full bleed like heavy flow which I usually have on day 2 so I also started on day 3 my medication. I did 2 cycle ivf icsi and did same in both so you don’t worry dear. Best of luck ! 🤞
