So Just had my scan and they told me I have polycystic ovaries about 20-25 on each side. What do I do now. Will they remove them. How will this effect me with the IVF. The nurse did say that I am ovulating, feel so down about it all.

Hi , I have pcos and no they can't remove them ( this is a condition) so, they will treat you according to it . I am currently on my down reg meds and hope to start stimulation meds nxt week .
Ivf can be successful with pcos.
Are you taking metformin ?
Hello, thank you for replying. No I am under the doctor and said me and my partner are ready to start a family now. The doctor send me to have all bloods done and the scan before referring me to the fertility clinic and I had scan today and just found out about the polycystic ovaries so haven't got as far as any medication yet and dont know a lot about it all. Hope all goes well for you.
Thank you . I was diagnosed when I was 21 ( in now nearly 39) my periods were few and far between.
I've only been on metformin for the past year . With pcos your body creates too much insulin so hence the metformin meds they mormaly use this for diabetics .
Good luck in your journey x
Thank you and to you x
Hey i have polycystic ovaries and i never had any problems with my treatment, i think it jus means you may need a closer eye kept on you when you go through treatment x
Thank you, feeling more positive now x
Hi lovely I have PCOS too and it is completely treatable but not curable. I take metformin to mop up the excess insulin and it lets your body act more 'normally' hormone wise. I was put on a "short protocol" because of my PCOS and associated higher risks when going through IVF but the docs keep a good eye on you and really the whole IVF process is the same with or without PCOS. The best advice I was given at the stage you're at was to lose weight to a bmi of 25 or at least of 30 or under (most clinics only take bmi of 30 or less for IVF and it also means the PCOS can impact less. I'd also read up on zita west's book "a guide to fertility" as it covers a lot of issues including how to better your chances and the background to PCOS. Good luck 😊
