Does using Aleve or Advil for lower back pain have anything to do with having NAFLD?

Those over the counter meds don't directly lead to NAFLD as it is related to lipid metabolism. The thing to keep in mind is that all chemicals, like these pain meds, have to be processed by the liver so they do have effects but if you take more than the organ can manage it is a toxic rather than a metabolic impact.

Aleve is processed through your kidneys, not your liver. My Dr.s had me taking Aleve when I had back surgery and new hips. They did monitor my kidneys during that time. Do not take Tylenol as that one is believed to be harmful. I don't know about Advil. I lived on Aleve for almost a year. When I was first diagnosed the first thing they asked me was do you take a not of Tylenol, they first believed it came from that. No, it's the fat.. However I use to take a lot of Tylenol. My NASH got much worst between 1987 and 2001. If they would not of found it in 2001, I would probably be dead. I would of kept doing what I always did.

NSAIDS are processed through the liver and kidneys. Do not take large amounts of them if you have liver disease as they can damage both liver and kidneys but it takes a lot to do this. Talk about it with your pharmacist. But they do not cause NAFLD.

Thanks everyone. I never take more than the two per 12 hour dose and usually switch to one every 12 hours unless the pain is really bad. I also rarely stay on them longer than a few days at a time. When I do hard work like heavy lifting or heavy yard work I am in real pain the next few days.
