can a fibroscan show an accurate reading if someones BMI is over 31?

It becomes challenging at BMIs that high but it depends on how the fat layers actually sit and whether the probe can see the gap between the ribs properly. It also requires a skilled technician to know whether the readings are valid or not. Kind of a vague answer, but we have done people up to 35 in our screening program but we have also had people in the high 20's who couldn't be scanned because of their anatomy.
My BMI at the time of my fibroscan was around 49. My kpa score was high and seems to be an outlier when compared to subsequent liver panel tests and nafld fibrosis scores, so it is possible.
