Hi Lynne
Well, since you asked, lots of things affect the color since it is the result of everything you eat and how your body is working. There were ancient traditions that predicted the future based on the color of the leader's messages from the unknown. However, enough reflection. One of the things most don't know is that the normal brown color is because of heme which is one product of the breakdown of red blood cells. So how might that relate to you? Liver disease can interfere with how waste products, particularly old blood cells, so if that isn't running well the color of your stool can become light colored. Just one example of what can happen and isn't necessarily your situation, just one answer to your question.
