2.5yr old daughter possibly withholding poop

Hi.

My daughter has been prescribed Laxido/Cosmicol/Movicol since just before Christmas last year 2021. we started her on one sachet and ended up going up to 4 sachets per day for about 2 months. once she seemed to have started to go a bit more regular, we gradually dropped her down to just 2 sachets a day.

We seemed to have made progress and was going every day/every other day, this was around May time. Thought great! about to drop these to 1.5 sachets a day then all of a sudden, we were back to square one and isnt going for 4-5 days again now.

We tested positive for COVID on Xmas eve so i'm wondering if that's where it all started as it was the week before the symptoms began, or we did start potty training the month before but she started to go fine for no 2s

I am in contact with the drs again for more advice on what to do. do we up her sachet and for how long, does anyone else have the same problems and what had worked well for their little people! I just feel so bad for her as shes clearly in pain. she will jump to the floor to sit down, rubs her bottom across the floor, holds her bottom screaming ahhhh i need a poo but then seconds later is fine and says no i dont.

Thankyou for reading

Add a stimulant

We went to the Dr's yesterday. I asked about a stimulant and he told me that it's no good as it pushes poo along and if she's in pain it's not a good option and to just up her sachets, he said he has some children on 8 a day! 😯 She needs to be going daily and no pain. She's also been prescribed some lidocaine cream to numb her bottom for when she does go.

You absolutely need a stimulant, speak to a different dr.

We’ve been in a similar situation and the stimulant has always helped us . Good luck

I contacted the health visitor yday and we talked a lot, and I said when she's going she's screaming in pain still, now the HV thinks she having side effects from the laxitives and it's having stomach cramps, and doesn't understand why the Dr has told me to up her sachets when her stools are already soft. So she's trying to get in touch with the incontinence team to see if she can get any info. So if your little one stoos are soft maybe give the HV a call as tbh they made a lot of sense to me. She also agreed that a stimulant would help so not sure why the Dr didn't recommend this 😞

I didn't mention on my original post that when it all first started it was treated as an impactaction because she had overflow, then it had resulted in this.

If it’s already soft enough to pass then you’ve found a good maintenance level (for us it’s only 1 sachet a day). Despite being regular 6/7 times a week for 7 months, we’ve all been hit with Covid and it’s thrown my 4 year old this week. Onto day 3/4 of no BM, upped the movicol & had 2 nights of senna so hoping she goes today. But she’s eating less so everything has slowed down :(
