The situation is just getting worse my daughter is now back in pulls up as she’s continuously poos morning moon and night - it’s like she has no control.. my dr had made a referral to the hospital and today I find out they have rejected my referral toilet problems are for the health visitor I just burst into tears I do not know what to say I spend all my times changing her she will not sit any length of time on the potty.. yes she’s still on the potty refuses the big toilet.. I’m ofcourse phoning the dr first thing tomoz to see where we go now … it’s really taking its toll on my mental health and it’s no job for my daughter.. she complains her bums sore due to consent pooing and tummy is swollen. She is such a fussy eater , trying to get her to eat at all at times is so challenging- can anyone help o am at my wits everyone says oh she’ll grow out of it but that’s been over a year it’s getting worse

Have you disimpacted her before? It sounds like you need to, have a look at the Eric website there is a wealth of information on this subject there.

Is she impacted? Sounds like ongoing chronic constipation with run off / soiling.

Like the previous posted says, disimpacting her is likely best option. Using Movicol over a week & then maybe adding a stimulant laxative like senna. All prescribed from GP. This should clear her out totally and then you get her On a maintenance dosage of Movicol so that her poos are always soft, this will help her pass them with ease and stop her withholding the poos. The maintenance dosage will be ongoing for a while, Giving her body time to recover and for the stretched bowel to recover. Also it’s good to reassure her that the medicine will be good to stop her sore tummy and bottom and over time she’ll see this & not be scared etc.

Could you use an iPad for watching on the toilet / potty?

Two good helpful replies here. It does sound that the poo she is doing frequently is overflow around a blockage. The disimpaction with movicol is necessary followed by a maintenance dose. This doesn't completely solve the problem because the bowel is stretched and sensitivity to needing a pooh is not there It takes a long time to come back.If you haven't seen it the pooh nurses video is very helpful. We also used to use childrens glycerol suppositries for instant results. I really know how you feel but it is nothing either you or she have done wrong. Our daughter has had this issue for nine years, she is nearly 13 and has to use a colonic irrigation system called peristeen. Things are so much better for her now though and accidents are rare. I wish you well and pray things improve.

Thank you everyone really appreciate you taking time to reply.. so today is day 1 I researched how to do the impaction so she’s had her 2 sachets today onto 4 tomorrow.. what I didn’t know was you only use 63mls of water for laxido in the past I always just put it in her water bottle so I’ve not been doing it right but Dr had never said anything I really feel let down and that Im over reacting … fingers crossed this does work x

You need to mix each sachet with the correct amount of water first, then you can add it to anything else afterwards. The liquid used to make the sachets doesn't count towards their daily allowance of fluids so its important to encourage fluids o top of the laxatives. Also you want to work up to the maximum dose for their age until you reach watery stools with no lumps consistently for three days before you start reducing the doses down extremely slowly ie one sachet every three days until you reach a suitable maintenance dose to remain on.

Omg just when I thought I was getting somewhere so started Thursday with the disimpaction process due to up her laxido to 6 sachets today but went to the chemist yesterday to pick more up and there is an issue with chemists getting this so they gave me chocolate movical .. daughter is refusing to take it - I will be calling the drs first this tomorrow to get an alternative as I need something I can hid in her water as she’s been fab at taking it she’s now also on a stimulant sodium picosulfate - I’m stressing this is going to set the process back as running poos are making an appearance
