My son was disimpacted over Easter. He is still soling in his pants, but pooing on the potty not alot though. How long is it after disimpacting that they stop soiling. He is on a maintenance dose of two sachets a day,?

Did you get him to the really watery tea stage and stay there for about three days? It sounds like he might still be disimpacted I’m sorry to say.

Yes. We were at the watery stage for over 3 days. I have been told by different people that it be that his bowel is still over stretched. Xx

Yes it can take some time for it to go back to its usual size. Until then he may not be able to feel or control with bowl movements.

Blowing things while on the toilet can help use and strengthen the muscles. I have my daughter sit on the toilet after every meal and blow into a bottle with a straw (but you can try bubbles, blowers and balloon what ever helps) and not only does it help with controlling the poo and makes withholding more difficult but strengthens the same muscles.

We’ve got a similar problem with my son. I’ve been told by the nursing team that if the bowel is stretched then muscles recover faster than the nerves, which may be why he still isn’t feeling it.

Only solution we’ve been given is to continue with regular toilet sits (this is a challenge - he’s 13 and you can imagine how he reacts to being told to go to the toilet!)

Hopefully it’s just a matter of keeping with it a bit longer for you. Good luck!

My son is also 13 and suffering the same problem. I’m so glad to have found this forum it helps you feel a little less alone in this battle

Thanks for replying - it’s good to know that there are some other older kids with this problem.

Would cutting down to One sachet a day help?
