Hi, I’m new here and was recently directed to ERIC by our health visitor.
We were given movicol for our son with no guidance and it was only after finding Eric that I understood that he needed to be disimpacted. I believed a few days a go that we had maybe reached that stage but after lowering the dose he has begun getting overflow again and I feel that I must have either not completed disimpaction or I’ve lowered the dose too quickly - probably both! But he starts school for the first time on Wednesday and I don’t know what I’m going to do as he is pooing his pants and is now reluctant to go to the toilet. It’s been nearly 3 weeks since he has done a poo on the toilet. I have emailed the school today and hope to speak with them beforehand and I am praying that they have experience in putting a plan together to deal with this.I really wish I’d found this website and group a month ago as I feel I’m out of time. Any advice would be gratefully received.

Sounds like maybe not disimpacted enough ( it’s really hard to know when you’ve reached the point) I would increase the dose again over the next few days and see if you can get him going to the toilet again.
Hello, our son has just finished year 1. Along with the medical advice could I suggest P&S waterproof pants? We got them through the ERIC website. Before we got them, he would leak through to his trousers a lot but they keep the poo and a lot of the smell in until you change them. Also, we put pads inside ( from cloth nappies). This meant that at school, he could just change the pad (we had a waterproof cloth nappy bag) and wouldn't have to negotiate taking off trousers and shoes. I used to go into school with him at the end of the day and he would go through changing with me there for moral support. It's a real challenge for him. Try the disabled loos at school.
Hi my son is starting year 1 shortly and we had an awful first year. He came home every day soaked through even though he was sent with multiple changes he wouldn't change and the school didn't seem to notice. I've talked to him about these pants and he's very excited about them. I'm wondering if you used happy boosters or just a reusable nappy liner. Also which brand you have found best? I've researched cloth nappies many times and am always overwhelmed by the amount of choice. I was hoping to find a reusable night nappy for my son too if this is anything you have had any success with.
Hello handbag lady! We went through our local nappy lady / nappy library and borrowed first before we bought. This was brilliant and she gave us lotsof advice for nappies and solution four son. . Search real nappy network to see if there's someone local. I found the MioSolo pads from Aldi are thinner than other boosters and worked well. I think you can get them online. We soak in HOT water and detergent, scrub off the yucky bits, rinse well then they go through the machine with other stuff. I hope this helps you. Good luck xxx
Thank you so much for this. My son really engaged with me over this and sounded excited to be going back to school as a result. Have ordered a pair of the pants to try and will get a few more if he likes them. We go through spells of poo accidents having had no control in March to being able to get tongue toilet if he's really quick so I'm hoping the insert will be more of a just in case than a necessity, unless the school toilet sprint will be just too much, which is entirely possible just trying to stay positive over that one!
