My 2 year old constantly struggles to poop. He drinks so much water and lately orange juice, he has a balanced diet, eats fruit and veg every single day. He's always been like this. I've had him backwards and forwards to the doctors who keep prescribing movicol which doesn't really make much difference. I've already found that eggs, cheese and cow's milk make him worse so have completely cut them from his diet, but it's heartbreaking watching him screaming to go. I'm completely at my wit's end. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Any ideas/help
Hi, I'm not an expert but screaming to poo sounds awful, it may be worth trying to go completely dairy free but with such a young child this should be done with the help of a nutritionist. My son recently got a referral to a bowel and bladder clinic (not the same symptoms as your son) and they've been so helpful and supportive, we're currently doing a disimpaction. I'd recommend another GP appointment and tell them you must have a referral to a specialist, refuse to leave until they do, it may be worth taking a video of your son (just his face) so they can see and hear him screaming, I know it wont be nice to do but I've found that has helped me in the past. The ERIC helpline is good too if you can get through. Good luck!
What kind of maintenance dose of Movicol is he on? It may be worth making it a bit higher until the poo is easier to pass...
My son was like this from about 6 months old and I would say to speak to the doctor as it sounds like the movicol dose isn’t high enough.
My son is 9 now and is pretty much out the other side but for us it was a long journey. I drove myself mad trying to work out if there was a cause and in the end have come to the conclusion that there isn’t really. We never found a link with his diet and were told when he was young that he just had an ‘immature bowel’. I did find that adding a probiotic powder to his breakfast did help a bit so you might want to try that.
Good luck
