3.5 year old will only poo in nappy - how to wean him out of it

Hello, we have a 3.5 year old boy and has been potty trained almost a year but has always only wanted to poo in a nappy. We have accepted this from day 1 as wanted to avoid withholding.

He does it in the bathroom sitting on the potty. He is very regular with doing it at the same time every morning and evening.

We have attempted to ask him if we can slowly remove the nappy (take one tab off) but he has down right refused.

I have heard that some people will cut a hole in the bottom of the nappy, starting very small and getting larger so that in the end it’s kist the tabs around the waist. I wonder if anyone has had experience with this process and do you have any tips? We might start with a tiny hole and just not tell him and see what happens....

Iv heard of people doing this but iv not had to do it myself so no tips. I did have a full of refusal and I put loo roll down the toilet and made a poo bed to take the poo back to the poo party. What I would say is as the grow older they understand so much more so you can explain and they just get it eventually. Youv definitely done the right thing to avoid withholding!! Xx
