Hi, my son will be 6 in a few months and he’s starting prep next year. He has poo accidents multiple times every day. We’ve been seeing a continence specialist for over 1.5 years. He’s been on Osmolax, diet and fluid changes routines and rewards. He got better for a few months at the very start of this year but has been worse than ever for well over 6 months now. I think the biggest thing that seems to get to me is that he doesn’t seem to care. He’ll sit in it all day if I’d let him, he doesn’t tell me or ask me to clean him up, he’s not worried about other kids finding out. He argues and fights every time I say it’s time to go to the toilet. I’m terrified about him being bullied at school! He’s such an outgoing confident kid and I really don’t want this to be a problem for him. We are now seeing a psychologist to see if there is some reason he’s not wanting to try. The only thing I can get out of him is that he hates going to the toilet.
I’m wondering if this is a common issue and if anyone has any ideas to overcome it? I equate it to quitting smoking or something. If the person doesn’t want to do it in the first place, they’ll never be successful.
