My son is 8 and suffering from chronic constipation- he drinks lots but every time he gets better it only lasts a couple of weeks and he impacted again. He has a good diet so bit frustrating would be good to hear any advice from others in the same situation. 🙏🏻
Chronic Constipation : My son is 8 and suffering from... - ERIC
Chronic Constipation
My son is 13. He had no problems with constipation until around age 10, but then, despite drinking plenty, and having a reasonable diet rich in fibre and fruit, though not so much from veg, things really worsened suddenly and he only passed stools every few days (if we were lucky)! Cue a toilet plunger every few days due to the size of what he did then pass! He often bled too when it happened. Normal over the counter laxatives and softeners did not do much to help. Dried prunes and apricots were more helpful, but not perfect! However, everything changed when he was prescribed Movicol sachets to have once or twice a day. Now we have a normal daily movement! Job done! He has never disliked taking them and positively asks for them if I forget! We just add some squash to make them more palatable.
Thanks, Movicol hasn’t been working for him we are due to see the consultant again in 2 weeks so hopefully he will give him something else. We are doing a diary for the next 2 weeks so we can show him what it’s been like. Glad your little one is getting on well.
Ah, sorry, didn’t realise you’d already tried Movicol. Shame it hasn’t worked. The diary sounds like a great idea. Hope you find something that suits better. Would be interested to know what else can be prescribed, in case Movicol stops working for my son. Thank you so much for referring to my son as my ‘little one’ - as he is now way taller than me - that’s probably the last time anyone will describe him Iike that so thank you for that opportunity, as to me he will really always be my little one! 😉
My daughter has just been put on a different dose of Movicol- 4 sachets a day; 2 morning and 2 evening since leaving hospital for 3rd time in 6 weeks. So far so good. Stools are loose; mushy type 5/6 on stool chart but we prefer this as at least we know it's out! Lots of support from external organisations- school has been fantastic. Fingers crossed no more impaction 🤞🤞 I am in touch personally with another mum off here, happy to offer support too if you Want? Private message or text... xxxx
Thank you that would be great. Nice to know I’m not the only one with a little one struggling with this
Nah you’re not the only one deffo. My son has now become intolerant of the movicol so I don’t know what’s going to shift his impaction which is too high for enemas. Hopefully he will be able to tolerate lactulose. My son says the doctors and hospitals and movicol and rubbish and the only ones who help are his osteopaths and his chiropractor. He’s not been able to poo other than soiling for a year and he’s had enough of it. These kids put up with so much 🙄
Oh poor boy, he must be in so much pain. Kids are very tolerant but it’s just not fair that he has to go through that. Fingers crossed the lactulose works for him. X
