Sodium Docusate

Hi all! We started disimpaction on Tuesday and have been on Movicol 12 sachets for the last 2 days. We've now been prescribed Sodium Docusate as well. I'm not sure if it's a good idea. Anybody have any experience with it at all? Thank you x

Hi. My son has had sodium Docusate and movical the same amount, it gave him tummy cramps but it did the job he now takes senorkot in stead off the sodium Docuslate with the movical. The sodium docusate is a pusher the same as senorkot liquid and the movical is a softener. They both work together. my son prefers the senna he finds it not as cramping as the docuslate.

Nearly 13 years on and still battling with my sons constipation. It’s all about finding the right dosage and being consistent with it this is where my son fails terrible, so we end up going around in circles.

Thank you for your really helpful reply. My son has been constipated for a few years but this is our first disimpaction so I'm a little anxious. You've made me feel a bit easier about it. Boys are difficult creatures aren't they!?

Omg yes they certainly are. I know it’s so hard and soul destroying especially when school is involved you want them to get a good education but you also want to be a mum and not see them suffer.

I also get my son xsmall Adult pull ups from super drugs or the biggest night time pull ups and leave them in a discreet place for him to use if he feels the need because from the slightest pop they tend to follow through it also saves a lot off washing and work for you. I wish you all the luck and stay strong your not alone.

I’m here if I can help you or for what ever reason. Xx

Thank you that's really kind. My little man is autistic, epileptic and has cerebral palsy so unfortunately school comes second to his health but I totally agree that getting the mum/school balance is very tricky. You sound like an amazing, thoughtful mum xx

There’s room for improvement as mums we learn and deal with new things every single day off our lives and get judged and talked about we also make mistakes full flat on our faces but we get back up and get on with what we think is right and learn from our mistakes. It’s hard being a parent it can be Very trying it’s also very rewarding. All babies should come with a users manual. I admire you. You have so many challenges with your life with your sons health. My sons and my self have Dominat Dystrophic Epidermoslysis bullosa and get stared at a lot I find people aren’t educated enough to except other people’s disabilities in life. Do you come across this a lot. As parents we have that unconditional love and drive for our children and it makes us stronger. Good luck. Xx

I couldn't agree more. We often come across uneducated or ignorant people and not forgetting the judgemental ones! At first it hurt and upset me but now I shake it off or maybe have a rant if I'm having a bad day. I had never heard of yours or your son's diagnosis before so I looked it up. My goodness, that must be hard. Some people have no idea how easy they have it. I will say though that I'm most definitely a better person since having my little boy. His bravery inspires me daily. He definitely leads by example.

Thank you for your help with all of this. It's nice to know we're in good company xx

If your son is at a school age you can get a care plan set up in school. Xx
