Hi - its not unusual that more than one family member has epilepsy. Some cases it is seen as hereditory. If you teach them to manage their condition well, which includes frequency of medication, keeping a diary, by thinking back over the past 24-48 hours you may even identify possible triggers to the seizure i.e. stress, tiredness, unusual foods, etc, let them live a balanced life by doing the things that they enjoy, which will help reduce frustration and subcontious stress. Some people are trigered through the anxiety of possibly having a seizure - learn to remove the negative thoughts. They need to try and break down the barriers that create frustration/subcontious stress, etc in other words they must not use Epilepsy as a reason for not being able to do the things they want to do.

If they manage their condition well, they may experience reduced seizure frequencies.

Tim

M.Kelly,

Hi,

I agree with Tim re: epilepsy can occur in more than one family member. My eldest daughter suffers from this condition and my younger daughter from Depression.

You did not say how old your daughters were but I suggest that they both ensure they have plenty of sleep,no alcohol and take their medication without fail.

They must try to control the Epilepsy and not let it control them

All these factors will trigger a seizure.I presume that they both have been diagnosed by a neurologist?

Regards,

Mary

Tim is correct, and I agree it can affect more than one member of the family. Do not overprotect your children... Let them also lead a good, balanced life but obviously, keep a close eye on any triggers that may bring on the seizures. Keep us updated on progress.

Hi Habz,

I am not sure of side effects in young children in this aspect.I suggest you contact the neurologist who prescribed the medication as side effects do occur in for some individuals who take Anti Epileptic drugs.

I wish you luck and contact me in this regard.

Regards, Mary
