Partial complex frontal lobe seizure duration.

My 26 yr old disabled daughter has partial complex seizures. Her neuro has narrowed her seizures to around one a day.

He has seen many of her seizures over the years which have taken over 5 minutes.

She was hospitalized last weekend and the doctor she saw said that if her seizures averaged over 5 mins then she needs different meds as it is too long.

Is there a maximum time limit, as if it is 5 mins then she would live in the hospital.

Thank you for any advise

Paul

Hi Paul

Thank you for your question.

Epilepsy is very individual, and the length of seizures can vary from person to person. Most seizures will stop around 5 minutes. But it is possible for them to be shorter or longer than five minutes.

It would be best to talk to your daughter’s neuro as suggested by the hospital doctor. Her neuro will review her treatment and tell you if she is at an increased risk of a dangerous type of status epilepticus.
